"I know you guys are a championship defense, and now you've got a championship offense to go with it."
(Divisions pg.143)
Okay, I've been waiting months to say this so bare with me if I'm a little unprofessional when I say, "I LOVE THIS CHEETAH!!!" Is it bad that after 2 books my favorite character is the one who doesn't even show up till the last half of the 3rd book? Ha.
Meet Lightning Strike, (Yes he legally changed his name to that) and for good reason, he's the best WR in the league and he's dedicated to the sport of football like no other. (Sit down Gerrard, you weren't even good till Dev showed up.) Strike, as he's referred as, is quick to throw his team under the bus however and will never shy away from voicing his opinion to the media. (Which got him traded from a great team to a bad one, and then to the Firebirds, a great team.) Thankfully the Firebirds are good enough to avoid that Storm...for now at least.
What I love about Lightning Strike is the fact that no one seems to get where he's coming from. He's always craving positive attention and putting on a performance, especially with entrances and introductions, seems to be very friendly towards Dev, and every one of his conversations ends comedically awkward like he doesn't know how to socialize. This leads me to wonder though if the character is hiding something.
-He's asexual (a person who has no sexual feelings or desires.)
-He's always trying to be the center of attention
-IS socially awkward (The Christmas Party Incident....Well, Lightning, showing up flashy as always in a Santa Suit and dyed Christmas Color fur, delivers new Iphones to everyone, curtesy of a sponsor of his or something, and when it came to Devs turn he gave him a....well, special gift, that was completely inappropriate and based off a gay stereotype. Why? Because Strike didn't know any better, nor did he sense the awkward hostility in the room afterwards. In his mind, it was supposed to be well meaning and he'd be the most popular one in the room when, in fact, it was the exact opposite.)
Hopefully the characters will come to understand Strike more (It urks me every time his conversations end, I ask myself, "CAN YOU JUST GIVE HIM A CHANCE!?" XD) And I can't wait for the 4th book to be out this July ^^
The Book Series is "Out of Position" , "Isolation Play" , "Divisions", "Uncovered", "Over Time" all written by Kyell Gold
