They have me thinking along the of an off-road camper. With the stock 235 cid inline six making a wapping 85 hp the will do 48 mph. So put a new overdrive transmission in it and get 58 mph.
Many of these trucks were set up as tractors to pull a 25 foot long supply trailer rated 4 ton I think it was. They made up a big percentage of the trucks of the Red Ball Express of World War Two fame.

Oooo! It's got the original "Six Banger" engine in it! I wonder if it still makes that distinctive "Whine" noise as it revs up under a load? Some guys see just a rusty old truck, while others see "Restoration potential". If anything, this old truck has lots of "Personality."
There is drivetrain noise in these trucks but it is mostly when in the lower gears of the transmission and or transfer case.
I like the idea of a early 70s van body on the truck... repower it with a 4.3 Chevy V6, you don't want to over power the transfer case... the low range gears are about half the tooth area of the high range teeth.

A lot of that whine is caused by the gear tooth profile and them being stright cut gears.
When I say straight cut this refers to the fact the tooth faces run parallel to shaft's center line. Not at an angle to it. Angling the gear teeth makes them much quiter, but it also introduces end thrists to the gears as the angle acts as a ramp or wedge as load is applied.
That was a neat old Dodge truck, I'm guessing late 40s or real early 50s. My 1948 Ford pickup would have gear whine in 1st and 2nd gear and none in 3rd and 4th.

In the 80s a friend of mine was stationed in Europe one of his deployments he was deployed with the Belgian military and they were still running around in rebuilt World War II deuce and a half. Rich said they rode really nice compared to the M35 that they were using at the time
