print out the picture of the trees and trace them, but not just as they are, try to add and subtract detail as you see fit. You should use the same medium as you do to draw your characters so that it will not look "pasted" in. Also you do not want unimportant details like an individual leaf to distract from subject matter. If you trace the trees it is easier to make things more simplified the smaller they are (ie in the distance)
