my professor uses it to mean "quite easily done." and puts it at the end of extremely difficult problems.

There's nothing quite as bad as an asshole professor.

asshole is not only asshole, but stupid and WRONG.
It means something like (I translate to swedish then to english :/ )
"which was to be shown" or "which was to be demonstrated".
You put it at the end to signal that the above shows what was asked for.
like, "prove that no triangle can have more than pi radians" then you write the proof and end with QED.

what an asshole to teach you wrong AND make fun of you for it.

Also, before some smarty-pants correct me, that proof is about euclidean triangles. I know of the curved triangles having more than pi radians ^^.
