I have a lot of ideas for Carnelian's story, i have a few ideas for comics with him and with other characters, a huge world to develope...
but i have not enough time for that :C
And there are another, bigger problem - even when i have a time, i have no faith in myself.
Unlike working on commissions and YCHes, while working on a personal arts i can't stop thinking "noone will be interested, you'll just spent a lot of time for nothing"
and it dismorales me a lot. (And that's why i draw a lot of sketches with Carnelian except of accurate finished pieces, i'm sorry (。•́︿•̀。)
I'm trying to solve this problem in about a year at least, and still have no good desicion.
And i have one idea for the last few years - to start a Patreon for my personal projects. Having a Patrons will motivate me just like having a commissioneers motivates me last years
Right now i'm thinking about content i can make on patreon's start. Sketches, request poll for my charters. high res, vote polls for finishing one of sketches etc
Please if you're interested in my stories and characters, tell me - will you be ready to support me on a Patreon? (i'm thinking about 1-3 bucks pledges, no more)
What contemt will be the most interesting to you? What do you want to see there?
Thank you for your attention (。•́‿•̀。)

I personally have no idea who Carnelian is bc I've only been following you for a little bit. I do however, have experience in storytelling via art and have found that doing it because you want to and because you care about it is reason enough to do it.
My ideas and commissioned art are for myself mainly then I share it, knowing that maybe someone, somewhere will enjoy it. Even if it's just 1 person, it was worth it because now you have yourself that is happy with the world you've created and someone else who never knew about it in the first place. If people happen to like what you like, then cool! All the better. But if you really want to see a world brought to life, go for it. The time spent working on it will pass the same as if you didn't work on it.
Your art is absolutely wonderful and would do well to capture an audience on that merit alone. Plot the story, give it structure, put what you want to tell down on paper, and go for it. You'll do great yo, and you'll look back and be happy that with what you've created.

Thank you for your answer and supprot!
You're right, i'm kinda stuck for a few years already, spending time for nothing. It's very hard to develop my world and characters because of a few reasons, and it will not change if i'll not start working on it (。•́︿•̀。)
I'll try my best to change current situation :)

I am a practical person my friend and have often thought about becoming an art manager...
Be that as it may, my advice to you is most practical.
First, it must make money, not loose money, unless you are willing to invest your own money until things take off.
Second, it must make enough money, this is most critical, that you will be happy to work on it.
I can't stress too much just how key that is. You have to want to work on this and look forward to working on it- otherwise it will fade away.
Having said that, dear Lady Chimaera, if just one percent of your watchers will commit to a $3 support level, you would make $100 a month.
1% is an obtainable goal. $3 is not much to ask.
So I would like to ask you, what would $100 "buy" your patrons? Would we get one drawing and a story a month? What seems doable to you?
Just "what if-ing" with you here.

I like your line of thought! And i thought about that for a long time too
I saw a few great artists who opened a Patreon and have 1-2 patrons at all, after a year, no joke. So i think i'm ready to the worst >< I know it's pretty hard to make patreon-exclusive materials, but main idea for me was not to make something i will not do in other way, but do something i already want to do, and motivate myself with that. I already tryed making a comic a few times and i have some unfinished images, maybe sharing those WIPs with patrons (when i'll have a few) may help me to not stop working on. And i think all of those will be published in open galleries later too, so there are not much to lose for me on that stage i guess
The main reason is to motivate myself, and to find a new way where i can improve myself :)

Well I think the problem with artist and Patreon, is exactly the same for every other business. And that would be misunderstanding what their product is.
You must almost daily communicate with your base. They must come to know you AS the product.
Patreon is not the product, neither is your art- this is the most common mistake made. Near daily communication, answering notes, thanking people when they take the time to comment on your art, these are the tools of your business with which you build your Patreon.
Precious few artists get this.
People want to know you my friend and the only way to do that is to communicate. Most artist see talking to those that are not paying them as something they do on the side. Their main business is art. They want to pump out as much art as possible. In reality, their main business is themselves and communication- commissions come from that. This is what leads to commissions and Patreon supporters.
And that is why they fail to motivate an audience. Artist have a false understanding of Patreon. They think like the movie Field of Dreams. "Build it and they will come." In reality, you never complete your business, you never stop building. You must always be loading new art, talking with those that fund your art, talking with those that watch your art and don't fund your art, and lastly, producing art.
As an artist you are a most special individual. Your product is not your art- it is you. People need to have knowledge of you. It is the social aspect of Patreon that gets supporters.
Don't misunderstand, art IS part of you and your product. But the reason people value your art enough to give you money is that they feel connected to you. They feel they are a part of your art efforts. That is something you must cultivate, or you won't get more than a handful of Patreon subscribers.
I hope that makes sense.
In summary, you are your product. Your art is an extension of yourself. You need to be selling yourself as an artist. Talking like this, like you are here in your journal, is an excellent way to promote yourself. It is free and it opens a window for people to view who you are. Artist that communicate get more and bigger commissions.
You are talented, no doubt of that.
But so are many other artists. Your edge on them is communication. Most artists either cannot be bothered to talk or want short descriptive sentences from their patrons. They don't want to listen to their patron go on about their character, the scene, etc. Be that social artist and you will excel beyond others. Be that artists that listens, responds and then listens again- and your Patreon has its best chance of funding your project.

Thank you for your opinion!
I really not thought about that before, but thinking about it right now - i supprot creators i like not only as content-maker, but as a person too. I should think about that a lot
Communication is not a simple thing for me and i really should do something with that if i want to keep sharing my arts in the Internet

To be honest starting a patreon or even a discord server can help out a lot, besides our monthly donations you can communicate with your fanbase to see what we love what we dont love so much and I am sure that will help you grow a lot as an artist and your faith in you. Your stuff are already dope as heckies. Dont doubt yourself
Thank you :)
I agree, i think it may work on me as it worked before. More feedback - more self-believe :D
It's very hard to keep doing something for yourself only. Earlier or later you start thinking "am i soure i want to spent my time and energy on that?" And it's better to have people who will help ro find an answer (。•́‿•̀。)
