Experiments with scales. I'm trying to find a way to make a reasonable scale chain where the scales hang in a direction that isn't parallel to the direction of the chain.
They don't work, but I wouldn't say it's a failed experiment. It still provided useful information, just not positive information.

if you flip them you would need to make adjustments to the connecting ring sizes. And who says you have to use 4-1? I found that inserting them into some other designs works with selective success. For example if you change the ring size and go for a 6-1 you have to skip every other scale and they become spaced but hold their position admirably.
I suppose that's true. But it doesn't fix the issue of I'm trying to figure out how to make the scales be perpendicular to the direction of the chain. In a European pattern, a chain sucks if it lays in that direction, so that doesn't work. I've tried a Persian pattern too, but that really doesn't work.
