It had been almost three decades since he left his home town for the stars, technology keeping him looking adolescent and physically unchanging for years on end. But this was the first time that he was to return home... or what remained of it.

It seems while he was out having adventures among the stars, a conflict broke, draft orders had been given, and the casualties were heavy, so heavy that the economy was no longer tennable and the survivors had to move to the bigger population centres.

Yet, the power was still on, as were the anti-vegetation measures. It all gave the abandoned town an eerie feeling, like someone might still be living here.

He walked those streets, reminiscing of his childhood, looking at the restaurants and arcades he would visit with now-distant friends after school, still faintly lit but attended by no one. He almost wanted to enter one and think of old times, but he felt no desire to defile the memory...even though looters likely will...
