Xodiac had to admit, the tour company was good. Very good. They brought their charges to a great many sites in each country, enough to satisfy nearly any tourist. Mostly it was the typical a collection of famous but nevertheless fascinating locations, like when they went to the Great Wall last week, or the Forbidden Palace. Occasionally they branched out, though, such as when they went out to a more rural province to take in the more natural beauty of China.
For the last three days they'd been on a river cruise, making their way back from the outback, as it were. They'd made a few stops along the way to see various points of interest, and late tomorrow they'd be in Shanghai and on their way to Japan. Which made this the perfect opportunity to hold a farewell dinner on the boat.
A formal dinner. In formal dress.
Emphasis on dress.
The cheongsam Xodiac had been given was decorated with flower petals that wound around the skirt and bodice, rather than the usual dragon. In most other respects, though, it was the quintessential "dragon dress." Which meant was more than a little snug.
He pulled at the cloth, but it wasn't very giving. "Damn this dress! I feel smothered."
Chathran, standing on the other side of the bed in the cramped stateroom, snickered. "At least you look all right," he offered. He was wearing a far more sensible jacket that looked like it would fit right in on a martial arts film. "They even gave you earrings, I see."
"Don't even start. I'm not sure how they expect me to even walk in this thing."
"Fine, fine. Shall we get to the banquet? There's supposed to be some sort of show, and I don't want to be late." The equine presented his arm to Xodiac.
The dragote looked at it with a moue of disgust. Then he sighed and stepped forward to hang off Chathran's elbow. "For the record, the only reason I'm taking your arm is because I genuinely think I'd kill myself trying to go down any steps in this."
Chathran snickered again. "If you say so."
"Shut up."
