Another Deleasean collab, with my artwife
lillyvaine , who provided the beautiful colours to this piece! <3
When Hessony was opened for pioneering, enterprising individuals flocked forward with dreams of becoming Ladammes and ruling their own cantons. The Gatelands, close to the Vallesundur wall and full of open hills and grassland, were easily settled. Rather than stand and fight, the native weirdlings would flee at the slightest engagement.
Once the edge of the deep woodland was reached however, the situation changed. The weirdlings entrenched themselves within their forest halls, destroying pioneer settlements in the dark of night, and vanishing by morn.
The Paladins of the Wall, sworn to defend Copperdark's borders, realized that as the border had grown, so too had the range of their duty. A great crusade was organized, hundreds of Paladins setting out with companies of soldiers behind them.
The Paladins of the Wall were unused to fighting on the advance. To contend with the well-defended weirdlings, the paladins began to construct fortresses of their own within the wood from which to mount attacks.
One such fort, humble by comparison to many of the others, became the site of a fantastic siege. Unknown to the half-dozen paladin commanders who occupied it, the weirdlings of the region had begun to assemble a great host, intent upon striking back at the encroaching Delesari. As they marched out, the first target they came upon was the fort.
The details of the battle would eventually become legend, to delesari and weirdling both. When it reached its conclusion, the weirdlings had fallen back, and the delesari had won.
Many years later, after the region had indeed been successfully pioneered and become the Lantagne Canton ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20624925/ ), the fort found continued use. Refurbished into a tavern, it bore the name 'The Gates Edge', as it had, once upon a time, been the tenously-defended edge of Copperdark land. Soldiers still frequent its walls, but they arm themselves only with beer and roast instead of sword and shield, and they rub elbows with all manner of travelers who come from near and far to rest their feet within its walls.
Tonight, we find Aislin and her allies counted among those travelers, delighting in the tavern's hospitality!
Further adventures of this foolhardy fools!
