Another pencil sketch, this time featuring a 20-year-old Valencia and her daughters, at least one of whom is going to be grounded.
Sketched in the new style (which doesn't look all that great as a sketch, but I don't have the time to color any of this stuff now). Onyx is also sporting long hair! And look at that! It's just...like...Val's. And you guys wondered why Onyx had a mohawk nowadays...

Critters that walk on their toes will stand on the full foot, since that requires much less energy than standing on the toes. When digitigrade critters walk (like what Onyx is beginning to do in the picture), they lean forward and use the tail to balance while walking on the toes. A flat-out run may make the creature appear almost horizontal, between the stretch of the neck and the extension of the tail.
Ahh.
Can;t say I've ever paid much attention to this phenomenon in your pics but then paws aren't my thing. ^.^;
Anyway, this is cute. I've always loved your pics of the girls as kids. I just gosh danged admire ur ability to portray sexy adults AND adorable kids.
(and thankfully, not, y'know... the other way around for the latter one there, blegh).

Ew. No, I'm not into that.
Older pictures don't show the "flat-footed" appearance, since I wasn't applying realism to those pictures. But the newer artwork factors in the physics of their musculature.
As for drawing kids, I've had to draw several kid pictures for my mainstream stuff. It's probably the repeated drawings that made it easier for me to render the skunks as kids.

Heh, yeah, me neither. o.<
Ok. Yeah your musculature is another thing I envy. I will catch up some day, maybe... :T
I don't draw kids very often as I don't really have reason (or time) to... but after a year of CnC I like to think I've improved a tiny bit on drawing clothing...
I guess I'll have to make a private sketchbook dedicated to kids(oh God that sounds creepy). I can draw cute enough teens and adults, but hrum, I just don't think the kids I draw are sugar-coma inducing enough.

lol I love Val's face.
It would be cute if you made G rated mainstream story books for kids of these characters, lol kinda like the Burnstein Bears picknick, they could have little trips to the park, fly kites and do all the things kids do and teach kids how to deal with things like "Tell mom" like througout the book they could keep picking on one and she never tells till the end and shows mom a pile of broken toys or something n gets to go have icecream and the other two don't I dunno I've been awake all night and this struck me as the cutest thing ever.

That's very sad that you moved, I would really love to see children's books illustrated by you, you are a very talented artist.
I usedto work at a binding company and we had some cute books being made there, and allot of the art was "ok" there was one with a bunch of skunks foxes and bunnies on the beach making sand castles and I thought it was the cutest story ever, and the characters looked okay but I couldnt help but think it would be so much cuter if done by a good furry artist, the first person who popped into my head was you, because your style is so cute and well composed.
We printed some run offs of the burnstien bears and again I was like "Why can't Jim Hardiman do stuff like this, it'd be so cute" I mean the adult work is great in itself but just watching these childrens books run off at 4,000/hr from print to pack, and their little 8$ price tags on the bar code, I just figured someone like you could make tons of money and produce cute amazing work that's better then the majority of books I've seen.
But that's just me, I mean i'd love to see it happen ^.^

Actually, they're about four years old. Val got knocked up (no surprise, given her activities) when she was 15; she had the girls when she was 16. Her parents didn't do such a great job with raising her, and she's trying to keep her daughters from repeating her mistakes.
Ahhh! that pic is so sweet that you should put up a public health warning for it for diabetics as my blood sugar went up 10 points just looking at it.
You know it reminds me of when I accidentally (yes it was a "REAL" accident) tore the head off my sisters stuffed horse, mom had the same look as Val as my sister bawled her eyes out about it. But mom just just put on a nursing gown and a mask and performed major head re-attachment surgery on "Horsey" and all was OK once again. and all I got was "don't be so rough on your sisters toys" lecture.
Thanks Jim this pic just brought back a lot of memories of my childhood.
(I'll get ya for it......... )

A thankless job?! Its a song to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go11V9EC-H4
Well in the wild a mother skunk will discipline her kits by biting them gently on the back of their necks lifting them up and shake them vigorously then she drops them and waddles away as the semi-dazed one tries to catch up.
And after all that no female skunk has ever been charged with shaken kits syndrome ^_^

AWESOME :D :D :D
You know there is only ONE shop, an extremely but completely filled-up from ground to top shop in Paris (just like in some sorcerer film) that sells furry comics, I saw the collected Skunkworks two times there many years ago, and the second one (first for me of course) rapidly disappeared... That's where I got the Ups and Downs also. For some reasons, I never found in any other comic the atmosphere that was in the collected book. Is it because of the succession of short stories ? The mix of sex, fun and crazyness ? The characters ? Probably all of that and certainly a part of nostalgy too, as it was one of my first furry serie, many years after having discovered Omaha and a few Albedo.

Charming (and extra loud, for a few minutes). This sketch is excellent for showing their personalities and interactions. You have so much skill with your new style that you can communicate this without having to rely on obvious cartoon-pattern clues. You've show this intimate family event with affectionate Norman Rockwell skills. (And that is meant as a complement -- no irony.)

If you read about Valencia, it'll tell you all the info.

Ahh, hah. I was slightly confused at this extract.
Valencia never forgave herself for what had happened that night. She gathered her belongings, and her daughters, and moved to West Palm Beach in 1750. She was able to transfer to another branch of the decorating firm, located in Palm Lakes, and the girls were placed in a new school.
I always think of time periods as running directly off of this one, sorry. :P

The funny comics just took a bried time period (a few weeks or however long the girls had to be watched by Jim) and ran with it as a continuos gag. The "Jim" in the Caterwaul storyline is similar to me by name only. Neither he nor Desiree (the chameleon) are accurate representations of the real-life people they are based on (either by name or pseudonym).
ahh okies, didnt know about the jim you and the jim in the story line werent connected but either way tho it kidn fo helps put the whole jim the artist or jim the caterwaul story together. i mean sperate yes but seeing what they do to you as the gag pixs you can put into perspective what they do to jim in caterwaul. really make you feel for him with those 3 around :)
