EDIT: reuploaded the file - the first one got a bit squished by lowering the resolution.
I've had this knocking around in my hard drive for a couple of years and figured I should finally upload it.
This map (including previous versions) has taken me well over 100 hours to make. The first version took up the bulk of that time, as communication was slow between me and the owners of the headworld it depicts, and nobody had an established deadline. I had a LOT of creative license with this - even though the world technically isn't mine, I'm part of the rp group that formed it, and the design as well as most of the locations were solely created by me. The first version of this map took a whopping 80 HOURS. The second and final version of this map, what you see now, is about 30+ hrs of work (I have no idea the real total amount of hours, as this was mostly a personal project I've fiddled with over years). I did this second version on impulse - I wanted to improve on the detail and rendering of the old version, and make it more reader-friendly.
I put a lot of love and hard work into the worldbuilding and illustration of this map - I took a vague idea of where established regions were, what their climates were, and got to work drawing the shape of the Alundrian continent. I actually fondly look back at the original "sketch" I received when the map was first requested: it's just a bunch of region names vaguely placed on a black background, and I love how simple it is.
I 100% encourage anyone to sketch or outline what they want in commissions, it's so helpful, even if it looks "bad". That initial sketch looked terribly vague, but it was also very exciting to see just HOW MUCH creative liberty I could take in Alundri's design - this world me and my friends have been a part of for years.
I tried my best to make the actual land forms and climate regions as realistic as possible given some brief descriptions of the world, and considering the whole planet is supposed to have been magically made by spiteful Greek mythology-inspired gods? It turned out great. For such a harsh world Alundri is supposed to be, it turned out looking pretty nice. I'm proud of it, despite the long, tedious journey it took to learn how to make it. This was the start of my passion for map-making, and the 100+ hour learning curve taught me a LOT - especially how important communication is in a commission like this, and how hashing out details early can make the biggest difference. My rp group was pretty stoked to see the final product, and all the WIPs along the way, and that's my favourite part of the process: seeing people light up when they can finally visualise their worldbuilding, and all the hard work that's been put into their stories.
thanks for reading folks, I'm glad I dug around in my files and decided to share this with you all.
