A tale of serendipity in one act.
When I picked up Angband a week ago, I wasn't expecting much. I was rusty. I imagined burning through half a dozen characters before getting my groove back. So for my first run, I rolled (what I thought would be) a weak build: A kobold rogue. I named him Cutebold, because I'm bad with names. I figured he'd be killed off by a rock lizard on the first level or something, and then I'd go on to more serious pursuits.
But ... that was a week ago. Despite all odds, Cutebold has been host to one of my best games of Angband ever. Here we see him on dungeon level 56, killing an ancient black dragon by accidentally bumping into it.
HE IS THE MIGHTIEST KOBOLD TO HAVE EVER ROAMED THE EARTH.

One of my friends abducted, adopted then trained a Goblin to be a rogue. At then end of the next chapter we went through the rare drop was a Vorpal Dagger. It was MADE for the goblin and we were awarded it by chance. The goblin is now our point man. if he is undetected... our enemy does not EXIST. ^_^
I think that both of these situations are awesome.

In Castle of the Winds, I often 1-hit-kill Kobolds, but a few levels ago, they'd sometimes kill me at random. They look like toy soldiers, tho, with funnels for hats.
Interestingly enough, that game is quite playable now that I'm an adult. As a kid, even at like 13, I was constantly dying, and couldn't get the hang of things (despite having a few console RPGs under my belt by then). I think, in part, I'm more patient now.
