What do you get when you cross an easily-angered “criminal” with a society that misjudges him and pushes him into a corner? I’ll tell you what you get. You get Ren Amamiya. Otherwise known as Joker to the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, a band of thieves responsible for stealing the corrupt hearts of powerful individuals to help change society for the better.
Identified by his slick trench coat and iconic white bird mask, Ren is the infiltrator to the Phantom Thieves. He’s rebellious and the general idea of what the trickster archetype is like; carefree, calm, and mischievous. At least that’s how he is in the Metaverse. In the real world (or at least the world he’s in now) he’s willing to help anyone who’s being thrown under the bus by some sort of corrupt individual whose heart has been taken over by one of the seven deadly sins. Alongside the help of his pet Shadow, Morgana, he’s willing to go beyond his limits in order to help the world, even if that world is occupied by a slew of discriminate anthro animals.
His Persona, Arséne, might look menacing at first, but in reality he’s a harbinger of justice. Before ascending into Ren’s Persona, Arséne Lupin was the full-on Robin Hood of France. The fictitious gentleman thief that defined the look. Known to take down criminals and help law-abiding citizens, Arséne has a great sense of judgment of knowing what people want and what they need. But after becoming the Persona we now know and love, Arséne can allow Ren to slip and teleport between dark spaces in a Palace, allowing infiltration to be a breeze for the thieves.
