On the 4th of December, 2005,
dragoneer created his account on the furry gallery website he certainly must have dreamt of for a long time.
To this day, FurAffinity is one of the oldest, biggest and most active picture gallery dedicated to furry artists (and I insist : dedicated to artists, not pictures - like so many boards that usually don't pay any attention to the creators themselves).
You can say what you want about the staff, about the policies, about the ergonomics, FurAffinity is an unavoidable site when speaking about furry art, that launched so many talented artists and helped so many others gain well-deserved recognition. It succeeded in staying alive through the many digital and personal life bumps when so many others have failed, and for all this, THANK YOU,
dragoneer. I am not sure you would have still created it if you knew since the beginning how hard it would be, through all the invested time, the critics, the attacks, the fundings, but this is certainly one baby you can be extremely proud of.

I don't know what you are talking about, did I miss something?
I mean, apart from the usual DDOS attacks from times to times, I saw nothing special since years...
This is no place to talk about troll-magnet subjects anyway, today I just would like everybody to think about what FA brought to their lives, and be thankful for this.

It seems strange to me to think of this site as the oldest, but I guess it IS currently the oldest surviving furry site. VCL went down, oh almost a decade ago? Sheeyart never became relevant again and vanished after only a couple years. Art sites like this pre-date social media. They practically invented it. I think the only existing art sites that are older are DeviantArt and Newgounds.
I don't want to sound ominous or critical, but websites should plan for their eventual demise even though it's never intended. Twitter only just recently added a way for you to download everything on your account. Tumblr added that too at the last second. But I'm also thinking about sites like the Internet Wayback Machine and archive.org that actively try to backup websites, but cannot access most of this site because most of the content can't be viewed without an account. So once it's gone, it'll stay gone. A downloaded archive can at least get uploaded later.
