10 Years of Nai Art
DA / TUMBLR/ PICARTO / PATREON / WEB COMIC
2003-2009
It was kinda rad reflecting again over the last decade of art.
There's been some struggle on my end to keep up with the constant changing of platforms and social networks. I mean originally I was publishing to go gaia if you can believe it. And that's not even covering all the life changes.
That said, I'm still happy I managed to get some grinding done over the years.
-Published and sold almost 400 books.
-Made and sold 4 video games.
-Finished and sold 3 comic books and 2 art books.
-Sold a lot of Merch at a bunch of cons (daki's and such)
-Had a wonderful baby girl
-joined a gym and lost 150lbs
-learned to cook healthy food
-Reached 170k page views in my FA
-have 3k pages of draft memoirs comic
-and another 3k+ draft pages of fiction comics
-fished the draft for the Galleon rpg book (sans final art)
-wrote 55k words of Galleon short stories
-and done a lot of personal spiritual work
I'm still no good at pr and consistent scheduling, but it's still a healthy body of work for one decade, and I'm looking forward to what I get done over the next ten years. That's if the planet is still here and where not all fighting in the Coca-Cola wars by then. If so, it's time to get jacked and learn to dive a mech.

I'm ready to fight for the glory of the Dr. Pepper Regime.
But man you have made amazing strides in the coarse of 10 years. This is amazing and epic. Especially when lookin bac at the past 10 years of 2003.
It seems to me like in 2010 you nailed down the style for yourself.
Big congrats on the success of your comics, games and merch.
I admit I'm a bit envious of your success. I wish I was as productive and focused as most artists when it comes to their projects.

Awe its not all sunshine and roses. And im sure if you did something like this for the things you were proud of, art or no, it would seem totally awesome!
I think the biggest thing i had to learn to do over the last couple of years was look after myself, and ive only just gotten the hang of it. I spent a very long time just throwing my physical and mental health under the buss to get that style down. Its all i ever wanted, but now that i have it, i feel like i spend every day making up for lost time.
Your a cool dude regardless of what you do with that savage <3

You definitely have gotten a lot more done than I ever dreamed of.
My art seems to go up a bit then then crashes for years. I’m getting in a rut now where I’m trying to do more exotic angles and failing miserably with perspective and such. I nearly want to stop drawing and just concentrate on learning Blender and go all 3D.
I only wish the GPU in my MacBook Pro didn’t burn out. Now I can’t practice Blender and not have to be in my room. My Mac Pro is more than capable of handling Blender but I also like to be in the living room at night.
Have you ever thought of doing 3D characters?

I do actually have a trick for productivity. I set really REAAALLLLY low goals for myself ... lthings like... just pick up the pencil and stare at the paper. Sometimes thats all i got and i count it as a success.
I see that you beat yourself up about what you can and cant do. I dont think that helps. I think you have to take the little victories. They mean everything.
Also, im not really that into 3d so far. I like traditional sculpting though. it helped a lot in my anatomy.

I do, sometimes, seem to deviate from what I planned to do with characters and it came out better than I thought. I think I’m just suffering from fatigue from work and that impacts my art. Also, I just suck at drawing characters compared to other artists here. Their characters, art in general, all look consistent.
3D would at least keep things consistent and I can do more and wouldn’t have to keep drawing characters. I’d just have to make clothes for them if they did. I did start to learn character modeling in late 2016, then work threw 50-60 hour works weeks that lasted until mid-2018. I stopped cold and even now that it’s calmed down, I’m finding hard to get back into it probably from fear of doing those long weeks again. Add to that my MacBook Pro burned out it’s GPU. I can’t sit in the living room at night and practice. The Mac Pro desktop, is more than capable of doing 3D but I can’t bring it upstairs. I can’t buy a new laptop.
Just look at
ruaidri’s work. Just a short time ago, they just were just learning to do 3D in Blender and have gotten things like this, https://www.furaffinity.net/view/31880918/ done in just a few months. This is why I wanna do 3D. I’d still do the characters they way I draw them but have them in 3D with “real” fur, scales or whatever else covers their bodies.
It’s just finding time and energy.... and maybe a new laptop would help.

Just noticed recently I've been somewhat following along for 12 years, haha, and you've amassed a portfolio thick as/thicker than War and Peace.
Amazing job Nai! Especially on the personal accomplishments.
I think I remember back when you were worried about twins, hehe
Got to try and throw money at you this next year, for sure.

<3 Its been my pleasure Draccy. You never really forget some of your oldest followers, especially if they've been with you as long as you have!
This next year i hope to simplify my goals as an artist and try to bat a 2020 home run! I would be over the moon to have some of my first fans be a part of that TTw TT
