I think I've finally nailed a good likeness of a vargr - this is pretty damn close to what I see in my head.
If you're new here, vargr are my take on werewolves, in this case humans who can regress into a primitive, carnivorous form. There's no "wolf DNA" involved. I know people tend to prefer the generic Rob Bottin style hairy dude with a wolf's head pasted on top, but that wouldn't make sense for my storyline, and if you've ever seen a big, angry male chimp, those suckers are hardcore scary enough, thanks. Aggressive, strong, and *smart*.

Good lord, that's a great concept. I've had a really similar idea, so it's awesome to see it fleshed out like this, without a trace of canid. But as far as canid werewolves go, both the design for American Werewolf in London and the movie rendition of Professor Lupin's wereform I found very impressive, especially the later, there was a decided lack of intelligence and a primate look that really rendered it more believable than any other I've seen in a movie. Hell, it looked like a damn baboon, actually, and yours here is vaguely reminiscent of a gelada (that got frisky with a lowland gorilla, of course).
Addendum: I'm not goin'a lie to you, I just made a bowel movement in my undergarments.

I'd really like to see your idea. I've been trying to refine how these guys looks for a while now, some drawings look much more ape-like, some more lupine, I think I'm finally more or less happy. AmWolf was a distinct inspiration; one of my all-time favorite movies and favorite werewolf designs. It's amusing (and disappointing) the number of people who tell me this look isn't "right", as if there's such thing as a real werewolf.
