Seriously, take it in: She's surrounded by men-turned-cats, who are completely content just to cat it up and fuck strays. She goes mad as they eat her out of house and home, while they live the catty high-life, fucking strays and being generally untameable riffraff. It could really go either way--if the men-who-would-be-cats have no real interest in her other than appearing to her to be cats and living the cat life--no projects, no adequacy, just a horrible spiral of abusive co-dependency and used litterboxes.
Maybe they're looking for something that makes being a cat worthwhile, that also isn't becoming a 'project'. Something behind her, that she doesn't notice, because only he sees it. Maybe they're only sticking around for being a 'project' because they thinks she'll eventually turn and notice it. Maybe it ends with them 'both' being cats.
