okay theres the mistake i made i colored the shadows on the same layer i colored the midtones, so you see theres a lot of dark yellow greenish lines- those should be of a more reddish hues like the corresponding shadows. SIGH!!! life

Yeah guh I have such a problem with it because the colors are what you want them to be D: Especially doing a commission? I can't color pick their colors, I have to kind of match it. I like to paint with the color picker tool A LOT to blend everything, and if you do that it's NOT REALLY THE COLOR you picked up, you know what I mean? fffffffff But I've read you do your values, put your colors on a layer on top of that on multiply or color, and then a normal layer on top of that to paint on to add purples to shadows and stuff... but then why even bother with the value layer? It seems like it adds soooo much time to the work.
I know it helps to see value without being distracted by colors but OH GOD. I think I'm too impatient :<

yesss like you choose a dark red then you plop it onto your coloring layer and it like magically turns rose pink or some weird burgundy??? and yeah thats just about the steps i took, here ill upload a umm step-by-step since i still have the psd with the original layers, but its basically sketch, basic values, shadows, highlights, opaque grayscale painting to tighten up the values, merge it all, color layer with the basic colors, THEN another color layer with the shadows/saturation stuff (like if they have a rosy nose or somethin) THEN ANOTER opaque layer to tighten up those colors bleh
garhhar and well i really have grown to like painting in grayscale, its then incorporating it into actual color that gets my goat :(
