This is one of the tip of a new ripping shanks we had cut over a year ago. There is a tooth that pins to the tip. In two hours of use they have broken one tooth and sheared the pin off on the 2nd tooth the sheared the pin and lost the tooth.
Each one of the teeth is about 300 dollars. Plus the time and welding rod to fit the tooth. Doing a good a proper fitting takes time. When fitted properly there is no issue with breaking the teeth off the tip of the ripper. The guy that fit this tooth did a half assed job of it, so now I'm fixing it.
The point of the shank doesn't bottom in the tooth it's an easy 3/4 an inch short. The tip wasn't built up to fill the pocket in the tooth so the tooth can't roll off the tip of the shank. When you do the build-up it needs to be flat and square to the sides and full width of the shank. Basically it should look like a wedge with the tip trimmed off does this look like that?
