Mountain Ghosts: Naming Day romance
“Let’s name them after your grandfather.”
Naming day is after the Soul Vigil because the Vigil is about moving on, and Naming Day frequently sees children named after those who are gone.
I also learned that pregnant goats, which inspired the body, look ridiculous and I love them. These poor ladies are almost certainly enormously wide. Spring is a good time for finding love and having kids because you can stay more or less in the same place so that they don’t have to spend as much time waddling around the mountaintops. They can, but it makes them cranky.
Because Ghosts are nomadic, they have temporary housing that they use, and they frequently sleep several families together. Because their sexually polyamorous, the families together are usually sexual partners and further divided into romantic pairs. (As an aside, they’re not terribly sure what to do with gay couples; so, they usually fly under the radar by sleeping four to a home with same-sex romantic partners and others can mind their business with who is sleeping with whom.)
They raise children as a very large family unit, which is an important support system in the event that someone is injured or killed.
Gestation is a little over a year, and children are born more like goats than humans in that they’re able to walk fairly soon and they only nurse for a short time before they become a bit more independent.
If the greater group gets too large, occasionally family groups will go their separate ways, but it’s always in great enough numbers that their chances of survival are good, and there are seldom small children involved.

More mountain ghost information! I may turn this into something a little cleaner later, but there’s something else I wanted to start work on and I needed this off my plate for the time being. (But I still wanted to share the adorbz).
