Cobalt is... Weird. That doesn't mean he's at all bad; weird can be interesting. He's a psychic deity, so Id expect him to be weird.
His prey is even weirder. He's going down defiant to the last, but why such a hostile attitude when Cobalt gave you an opening to NOT be eaten? Something ain't right, and that makes for a very good story.
