...Zel's discovered digital colouring...be afraid...be very afraid...
My first ever computer coloured piece.
This is by no means finished, but I'm not going to be able to work on it over the Christmas period, so figured that I'd put it here as it stands for now...because I'm pretty happy,
Still have to add a background, I just blacked it out here because on the white background that's presently in OpenCanvas...all of the detail disappears. That's why the edges are all rather rough at the moment, the black was done just so you can see the actual drawing. Wings still need to be properly shaded in too. (left wing still needs to be added at all for that matter!).
Given that I'd never coloured anything on the computer before, I'm pretty happy with how this came out.
Somewhat of a challenge as a first attempt though...black is a hard colour to work with! Actually a very, very, very dark blue as you can see - but for all intent and purpose, if you were to ask someone what colour my hide was, you'd be told black.
Much to be done still, and I'm open to all feedback and advice...happy with it as a starting point though.
Mwhaha...knew I got that graphics tablet for something...

It's looking really good! Especially for your first major attempt at digital coloring, it's turning out really impressive. Particularly for a crazy hard to draw color. Here I am, just being conveniently blue and trying to make life easy for people, and you have to come along and be all black and hard to draw... ;) *hugs*
C'mon...this is me we're talking about...when do I ever do anything simple?
Black was maybe a somewhat ambitious place to start with colouring though...Especially given that both colours in question are both very heavily saturated. Mane is going to be a real pain to finish off to start with, before taking into account the colour.
Also learned when zooming in for detail like my eyes, that I need to scan the original at an even higher resolution than I did here. Live and learn I guess!

I rather like this. I think the dragon looks good, first of all. The body structure it has is neat, and I'm really liking the design of the face. Nice colors, too... I'm really liking the bright red against the darker colors :D
Very good for a first try at digital coloring, especially in Opencanvas. Which version are you using?
But overall, it looks really good so far!

Have just dug this out again (after all but forgetting about it, as is my way), and will have a shot at putting in an actual background of some sort. Nothing fancy (as if I can do fancy...), but it would finish the picture off at least. Then I could have at least one picture that is officially finished!
Using OC 1.1 b72 at the moment, and it seems to work okay. I just really, really need to make sure that I start out with a higher resolution image next time so that I have the resolution to deal with the details.
...that and try to plan out the colouring sequence a bit better so I don't end up with two MILLION layers by the time I'm done.
