Cloaks and Daggers
First entry into ShadowSurge's Universe, it may seem to leave a lot of desired answers to questions you will have while reading it...and thats the point! Everything will be answered in time, promise. For now take it as is and let me know what you think! I will post the story in this box as well as put in a link to a dropbox folder from which you can also download a .docx format. - https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cmnyf39se0nivox/AAAHptwEfaLB0yu24zt99E6ia?dl=0 If you prefer to read it here, then here you go, unlike other submissions I have posted I will leave it white so it's easier for everyone to read.
“I hope this goes better than I expect it too” Veria spoke in a slightly nervous tone to herself.
The gray and black bunny superheroine stood nervously in the transport leading to where DayStar would usually be found, on board his prized mobile fortress. Looking out the window she could see herself getting closer to the hulk of an assault vehicle, could transport nearly an entire army and still have room for a full city of civilians with no issues. The massive crystal housed as it’s main power source shimmered and shone brightly along with the spire of light on top of the islands mountain, reflecting on the window and making her look away from its brightness.
As she sits back in her seat she thinks over the reason she came home just to see the commander and prince of the place she called home, she needed to talk with him about some of the practices that the islands head of R&D, Dr. RaibuDraht. The same person who had trained her when her parents denied her request to become a superheroine. She could only hope that her mother had disconnected for the night, otherwise she would more than likely hear the entire conversation.
With her new purpose in life, ShadowSurge had become quite the popular icon in her own ways. Her face could be seen in the gym's across the metropolis as well as in the form of action figures, motivational imagery and audio devices ever since disclosing how she was able to find trouble in the city so quickly, she even began to gain traction overseas with her heroics across the pond.
It was nice and kinda fun to be recognized wherever she went to help as ShadowSurge and to be thanked for saving the day, getting the key to the city on multiple counts and even autographing for boys and girls that looked up to her along with different types of merchandise being sold with her name and image on it. Laughing a little as she even recalled multiple invites to become a porn star from a couple of studios, still under consideration of course. Her outfit tended to get mangled or flatout destroyed in fights so the extra income would be nice due to the cost of importing the materials for it was so high.
Shaking her head she growled softly at herself for sinking into the gutter even for a few moments “Dammit, focus girl...can’t imagine the commander taking you seriously when you’ve got blush burning on your cheeks.” Wondering if her pilot heard her talking to herself, she peered around the corner then gave a soft groan as she realized that the transport was being piloted by one of the fur’s that had been turned into a mindless drone by Dr. RaibuDraht and his...associates, the pilot hadn’t even acknowledged her speaking, only blinked and stared blankly forward.
Leaning back into her seat once more, hearing the engines slowing in speed signified they were about to land and she went back to her thoughts, but kept the gutter bits at bay. As valuable and appreciated the acknowledgment from others was for what she has done, she felt that the experience from being around those on the mainland, in the university or otherwise combined with the experience she’s gathered from other heroes, heroines and even villains has been far more valuable.
Shaken back to reality by the transport landing she stood up just as the doors opened and stepped out, taking a moment to get her surroundings. Clean landing deck, bright crystal lights illuminating it with rainbow shimmers. Steeling herself, she moved to the main door leading to command deck and his office, she was here because of the method in which the good Dr. acquired new test subjects, and talking to him first seemed the best way to go rather than the Dr. directly.
She had been under the understanding that they only came from Tartarus, the islands intergalactic blacksite prison. A housing in which all it’s VERY permanent residents would never be missed by ANYONE, though a bit unethical most of the islands inhabitants thought nothing of them being used for such things, due to the crimes they had committed.
However, in her time on the mainland she had been coming across particular signals with her Nexus hearing. When the signals were followed and she came to where the source of them were, she found nothing...except for this last time. When she arrived she found two of RaibuDraht’s drones taking someone away, she was certain they were his as they bare the same mark that was on nearly everything he created, hell he even had it on himself.
If he was indeed capturing civilians from the mainland cities then he needed to be confronted and brought in, she wouldn’t stand for it and she knew the other supers wouldn’t either. Taking those from Tartarus was one thing even if unethical. Taking them from the streets of mainland cities and colonies was entirely another. Her high heeled thigh high latex, spike adorned boots clacked with a hint of metallic echo as her steps hit the floor. Taking the elevator within the door to the command deck, taking a deep breath as it closed and moved up.
As the elevator rose she looked out over the beautiful sight that was the islands skyline, such beauty held so much power behind it. She sometimes wondered what would happen if the island itself would ever become corrupt, those that live within it were extremely powerful. A mixture of almost terrifyingly intelligent sages, magic wielders, warriors, supers and even deities themselves, the commander included.
He was the descendant of mother earth herself on his mother's side, the keeper of the sun on his fathers. The power from each alone a burden with the responsibility that came with such a complex set of abilities, as well as simple ways, such as being able to change gender. However he bore an additional something he kept hidden from most everyone that wasn't VERY close to him. That something was the reason he rarely removed his hat, it’s mark lay bear on his fur.
As the elevator reached its destination the elevator’s sounds brought her back to attention. Stepping out she turned around as the doors shut, gazing into the chrome shine to make sure her hair was looking good then went to his office at the far back of the command deck. With every step her nervousness ticked upwards, this was the first time she had requested a private session, the fact that it was to be discourse on what she had seen the doctor’s drones doing make it all the more unnerving.
Once at his office doors she took a deep breath and knocked, after a moment a female voice called out. “Come in!” With a soft beep the ornate door slid open, parting way into a massive room filled with books, computer stations, a 3D holographic map in the middle, enough to where she felt if anyone needed anything to command a full scale war - it was in this room, dawning a retro tech style meets western look, much like the owner. Looking at the commander and clarifying for certain that the female form was chosen for the night.
Looking up from her desk the werebynx gazed upon the super heroine, her spectacles gently glistening in the light. The slightly ominous scene only exacerbated by her hat covering most of her face from the angle she was seated. “Veria! Pleasure as always, or should I be calling you ShadowSurge now?” She reached out and shook the tall bunny girls hand, gesturing to a seat in front of her desk. “Please, make yourself comfortable. Do you care for a drink?” Getting up the western theme-meets-cybertech hybrid worked to give herself a whiskey, spiced crystal mix with a birthday cake flavored ball for herself, one she made known as the LoveHeart Special.
“Oh, a City Of Dreams if you wouldn’t mind” A drink named after the island itself, more so for the quite busy and awake entertainment districts combined with the fact that if you have dreams and desires, they could be fulfilled here and she knew that first hand. “As for what to call me, let's skip the formalities ma’am. After all, if it weren’t for you bringing me to my REAL parents I never would have gotten to where I am now, by that notion you have the right to call me either.”
As her request was heard the commander let off a soft chuckle. “Heart never leaves home, does it?” the drink itself looking like someone mixed a rainbow with three hard liquors of random choice, a strong but uplifting and bubbly combination with hints of various fruits or candies depending on ones mindset. The drink itself having slight changes between one person to the next, all depending on what they loved the most. Taking the drink ShadowSurge giggled “No ma’am certainly not.” as the commander sat down and sipped her own drink she looked the super heroine directly in her eyes. “Good to know, and very well. Formalities aside Veria, what can I do for you?; As I’m going to guess this itself IS a formal occasion, as I’ve never had a request for a private meeting with you before.”
Perking her ears high Veria took a rather large swig of her drink before setting it down and clearing her throat, unsure of how to start this conversation. “Well, I wanted to bring to your attention something I witnessed on the mainlands. I could have hit the situation head on but I thought it best to bring it forth to you first instead.” Taking a large gulp from her own drink the bunny hybrid raised a brow, sensing the concern in the super heroine’s tone she leans forward to show she was clearly ready to listen. “Very well, what did you see? Cataclysm fissures?; Rune portals? Rogue zealot or devil?”
ShadowSurge shook her head quickly no. “No nothing like you and your team are used to seeing.” Getting a nervous look on her face she steels herself once again and presses the issue at hand. “I came here to talk about Dr. RaibuDraht, I saw some of his drones take away someone from the streets into a portal.” Hearing the super bunny out the commanders eyes flare up with curious glow as she slowly speaks again. “Hector’s drones? Surely you're mistaken, he would never capture unsanctioned targets. He has been with us for years and has never shown any notion of disobeying my orders.”
ShadowSurge took in a heavy breath before taking another swig and looking back into the commanders eyes “Yes ma’am, they did bear his emblem. The very one he wears on himself, also wielding weapons HE designed as well as the echo of coding in the air, I recognized it as his base designation once I focused on them.” Finishing her drink the commander remained in silence for a moment before continuing. “You do understand your accusing the man who not only has done wonders for the world outside this, but has done numerous, even COUNTLESS things for the island.” Leaning forward a bit more she gestured towards the heroine. “Not to mention the one who trained you and taught you how to use your powers AND helped revamp and redesign your cores.”
Standing her ground ShadowSurge pressed the subject but remained formal and calm. “I am fully aware of everything that Hect- Dr. RaibuDraht has done for everyone, he has indeed made the world a better place. However...if his drones are capturing civilians for whatever purpose then he needs to be held accountable.” Watching as the commander turned away from her to a terminal by her desk she sat still, in a moment of silence the hybrid typed away in a slightly furious manner before questioning the heroine. “Do you have any other evidence other than your word?; Photos, documents, video, audio?”
As unfortunate as it was, ShadowSurge shook her head no. “There wasn’t enough time to capture any of it, I barely got enough of a glimpse to see the emblem and hear the code echo” Having found what she was looking for in the system the commander stopped typing and looked over the screen. “Then I am afraid your accusation has fallen on false pretense, you have no evidence to show that any of this has happened yet you come here and accuse Hector of kidnapping, misuse of the portal system to mainland locale’s without prior approval and unauthorized conversion reassignment using island restricted tech, Is that what I’m hearing?”
ShadowSurge wanted to nod but instead defended her position. “Well I don't mean to make it sound like that but when you put it that way, yes I am. I am more concerned than anything, I was hoping to have you look into it. That’s why I didn’t go to the Doctor directly, I figured you would hear me out.” As she turned back to her desk the commander held her hands together in a firm body stance. “You did, and I HAVE heard you out. You have no evidence to support your claims and I just checked over the islands portal logs and energy patterns. No drones have gone rogue or left the island of their own will, they are still under control by Hector’s, SVASCI’s and Trixa’s systems. Nowhere has there been any reports or recordings of any portal or teleporter misuse. I’m sorry Veria, but there is nothing I can do without evidence of any insidious or at the very least, questionable notions.”
ShadowSurge’s annoyance hit a spike as she tried to keep her cool. “I would hope you would at least look into it.” The commander leaned back in her chair with a sigh. “Veria, we are trying to keep track of a civil war in the under realms along with trying to keep mediation going with tense relations in the higher realms. Not to mention capturing and containing any rogue entities or simply beings that have delusions of grandeur. Now if there isn’t anything else I would like to get back to work, the island isn’t going to run itself and my team and I need to be on standby at any moment.”
ShadowSurge had finally reached her breaking point, snapping back at the commander. “So your not even going to bother looking into this? Even just CHECKING on Dr. RaubuDraht’s private quarters? His personal terminal? Maybe his lab’s? With RESPECT ma’am, those drones and civilians didn’t just go with the wind!” The commanders tone had gone slightly cold as she growled softly as she replied. “Veria, I’m going to say this one time, and one time only. Let it go…”
ShadowSurge growled herself jumping out of her seat, a small electric charge going up between her ears in anger, the bunny within her chest core giving a look of equal irritance. “If you won't look into this further then I WILL!” As she stood up in a flash herself, the commander slammed her hands on her desk. “You will forget about Dr. RaibuDraht, his associates AND his drones before anyone gets the wrong idea, gets hurt or worse! He is a good man who has done good things!” ShadowSurge scoffed folding her arms. “GOOD man?! The very same one who forced you to get your augments because he felt you were too powerful and needed to be kept an eye on?!”
Now looking shocked more than angry the commander’s tone lowered, the red tiny glint in her eye evidence of the augmentations. “While I don’t know how you found out about that, it is a separate issue compared to the one at hand.” The super heroine shook her head in disagreement. “Hardly, if anything I feel they are linked as it proves my point that Dr. RaibuDraht might need to be looked into more often than not, I mean for fucks sake Hiro-san...he took you away to his labs to get them while you were SLEEPING!!”
Remaining in a cold still silence the commander folded her own arms. “Are we done?” ShadowSurge began backing away to the door. “Yes, I guess we are. I will continue to pursue this however, with or without your help commander. I will find out what’s going on and then decide if I report to you first or go after the answers myself.” As she stomped out the door she heard it lock. Stopping in her tracks and spotting something glowing in the dim light in her peripheral, quickly turned her head to see a figure in the shadows, easily recognizing the glowing color patterns that stood in them. “SVASCI? What are you doin- Shut it!” The cyber virus vixen stopped the heroine mid sentence, clearly in a state of anger and disgust. “You have...the BIGGEST nerve coming here to the commander with that after what you pulled.”
Glaring directly into the heroine’s eyes her lumination increased in brightness as if to emphasize her anger. “You could have and SHOULD have just stayed away, me and Hector are happier now, just as we were before you stole him from me only to leave the island like he didn’t matter...and this incident proves that.”
The heroine was taken aback by her childhood friends comment before her expression turned to a caring state of confusion. “SVASCI, that’s not at ALL what was going on and this situation is far above that anyway!” The vixen snarled before turning her back on the one she once called her friend. “Hector was right, the justice system IS corrupt. I can see it’s taught you nothing to boot...you will pay for what you have done that I can promise you.” Going to the ledge and railing she prepares to step off, but not before turning about to give the heroine a cold stare. Jumping off she slowly rises on a transport being piloted by one of her personal drones off to another sector. ShadowSurge shook her head watching the cyber vixen fly off. “I have a bad feeling about this...all of this, I hope she doesn’t do anything stupid.” Letting off a heavy sigh she headed out to the elevator back to her own transport, she had a LOT of work to do.
Back inside the office, the hybrid stared at the door, wondering what the commotion outside was before calling out into the room. “You do realize I know you’ve been there the whole time.” At the back of the room pair of red eyes on a massive body in the shadows stomped forward with mechanical sounds as a cybernetic german accented voice replied. “Forgive the espionage commander, knowing she was coming to see you I felt it necessary for me to be present.” Turing about the hybrid looked at the massive figure. “You also know for a fact that I HATE it when anyone does that, you could have just asked to join in Doc.”
Hector shrugged. “Considering what I just heard, I feel it is a good thing I was not. The poor girl seems upset clearly, though I haven’t the faintest idea what she’s on about.” The commander let out a soft hmm in reply. Slowly looking out the huge window of her office as if to find the right words to say. “If she knew the true reason you trained her, she would be even more so Doc. I do NOT like playing this game, using her as a piece of meat to lure out your old colleague, more so without letting her in on it? It goes against nearly all of my moral’s and SOP.” Hector looked out the window with her as he replied. “An unfortunate but necessary evil I’m afraid, eventually he will realize the importance of her biological construct to his research. Along with the fact that his monsters and minions are not enough...hopefully. With those facts he will eventually have no choice but to come out of hiding rather than just send his...toys.”
The commander looked over at him in a snap. “You had better be right, you had also be ready when the time comes. If anything happens to her it won't be just her new friends and love interest that will come after you.” The doctor being curious looked back at the commander, seeing the silhouette of a massive female beast around her body along with the glowing symbol on her head as she tilted her head and hat to show it underneath. The doctor grunted and raised a brow. “You would unleash the beast on me then?”
Unfolding her arms she put her hat back down. “WE would unleash both of us on you, she has come to like the girl, a battle sister if you will. Not to mention those who have grown attached to her on the island AND first and foremost her parents. WHO I might add would be furious enough to know you put her through training for her powers to become a heroine and regulator when they strictly forbade it.”
The doctor nodded taking a bow of assurance. “When the time comes I shall be ready, in the meantime I have full confidence that she can handle herself.” As the doctor turned to head back to the private elevator the commander called to him. “I hope so...oh and Doc?” Stopping in his tracks he looks out his peripheral. “Yes commander?” going back to her desk and sitting down she went back to her work before replying. “I’m going to need the track records of all your drones going on and off the island along with any portal or teleportation entries AND any captured targets and experimental reassignments, this includes any and all from Tartarus.”
The doctor looked back at her directly with a slightly shocked look. “All of them?” Without turning she signed one more paper and put it in the sending pile. “Yes Doc...ALL of them.” As Hector hit the button he let off a curious hum. “Do you not trust me commander?” Once more without looking up from her desk. “I do doc, I just want to make sure we are all on the same page with transparency and that information doesn’t get lost or confusing for anyone.”
At that time Trixia appeared on her desk in the form of a hologram, the commander giving her a slightly surprised look “Trixia, I thought you disconnected for the night. “I did ma’am but umm, not sure if you are aware of this but SVASCI is taking off in one of the war transports and has called all her drones to it. She appears to be setting a course to the mainland.” Using coms on her terminal the commander attempted to hail the cruiser. “SVASCI this is commander DayStar. I’m not sure what your doing or why you're doing it but I command you bring the ship back to port and explain yourself...SVASCI?;....SVASCI?!?” With a growl she looked at Hector with a concerned gaze, mixed with her already stacked emotions from the evenings events. “You're connected to her directly. Go see what she is doing, report to me immediately with your findings. DO NOT let her leave with the cruiser!!”
With a nod, clearly hearing the annoyance and concern the doctor enters the elevator as Trixia fades away, going back to her standard duties with a worried but curious set of emotions. The commander froze and stopped her work and looked back at the window overlooking the ocean and the beautifully lit island while tensely waiting to hear from SVASCI or Hector. Deciding that after tonight’s events, she would work a pole at Revolution Fusion and unwind, even if at the moment she was lost in thought. “Many questions, no answers.” A low growl coming from the beast within. “Hmm, your right, time will give answers. However, that’s itself is another.” Slowly turning towards the map she looks at a mass of energy readings coming from the very same city Veria was watching over on the mainland, one that had been faint before but now was growing stronger. “do we HAVE the time to wait?”
“I hope this goes better than I expect it too” Veria spoke in a slightly nervous tone to herself.
The gray and black bunny superheroine stood nervously in the transport leading to where DayStar would usually be found, on board his prized mobile fortress.

Thank you! I hope it wasn't TOO hard to follow, as I said above it may seem confusing but it's laying down the foundation for future bits. Course reading my bio helps a little.
