The Sym team finally got it to where they can use the data from the pull team and make outright copies of the things in other worlds that they get the DNA from, rather than spawning short-lived clones like before, and even managing to copy their original personality, too!
Sure the result's a little green, but otherwise it's an exact replica of what it would be like in their original world.
It takes a vast amount of the holographic system's power, though, so it's highly unlikely the clone Sym will be kept for long.
=======================
Well this is odd, Oyelti, one of the pull team techs dropped off the data for Bixxti's source DNA in person.
Judging by her sweat, she must have run most of the way, something you wouldn't expect from someone as heavy-set as her.
Wouldn't it be more convenient to send it digitally, instead of running down here herself?
You ask what she's doing here, why she didn't just send it.
She holds up a finger to signify she needs more time to breathe, then finally responds, "whew, uh, yeah I had to see this myself. Don't you know how odd that sweet kid is in there? She's our only hybrid who's aged mostly normally and there's still a lot we don't know about the process, since the next oldest little darling wont be ready for another few years."
Ready? Ah, the age fluctuation she went through. You heard some staff considered it "hybrid puberty", but honestly you don't know anything about it and don't really care to know the details.
You ask Oyelti to get to the point.
She wipes her forehead with her coat's sleeve, "yes! I was getting to that. So you might've noticed Bixxti's colors changed a little afterward, right? Well it sure surprised the DNA research team to find out her DNA changed, too. Our little child's got some surprises for us."
Before you can say anything, she pulls a couple devices out of a pocket, "here, let me show you. Here is her original:"
She inserts the device into your console and /poof/, a Sym appears in the room, it kind of looks like Bixxti, but it has some kind of skirt made of fur.
"See, this is called a 'Braixen', the creature we originally copied."
Bixxti looks curious about it and plays a bit, twirling her blowpipe like a baton, the Sym does the same thing with its stick, but the tip is on fire somehow.
Oyelti continues, "they look like a couple siblings, right?
You agree with her, but voice that this isn't really unexpected.
"Ha, you'd think that this is normal, but look at her color! Look at how her cute belly fur is that pale yellow, and her shoulders are all solid yellow! Odd, huh?" Excited, she doesn't even give you a chance to say a word, "now look at this fuzzy friend:"
New device, new Sym. This one looks much more human. It seems to have a bit of a chest to it, maybe concealed breasts? These animals are weird, they almost look like hybrids on their own. You ask Oyelti what this has to do with Bixxti.
"I was getting to that. Do you see any similarities with this one? This creature, we're pretty sure it's called a "dellfox"; no clue yet what they have to do with our precious child, but she's definitely related to it." She adjusts her lab coat and stands a bit straighter as she watches the three in the lab interact with each other.
So they pulled her DNA to peek at her original species and found two different kinds of DNA? You admit to Oyelti that you didn't notice Bixxti changing.
Fixated on the three, Oyelti doesn't even look at you, "makes sense, Bixxti's body has been changing very slowly, we figure it'll be years, maybe a decade or two, but she'll eventually look more like the "dellfox" than the Braixen as she matures. It's probably not going to be anything too drastic; she'll have to loosen her tops a little and she'll grow a foot or two taller, but other than that and her color, there wont be that much to worry about. The most important thing is that she's still only 5% human, so her DNA changing isn't squishing out any of that; as far as the DNA guys know, she's 5% human, 85% Braixen and 10% "dellfox". Everyone's trying to keep her changes secret from AEC, though, because you and I know they'll want us to run her through the puff testing again."
Agreed. Even the thought of sticking tubes into a kid is enough to make almost everyone in the facility get shivers up their spines, and you're glad you weren't the poor soul who got picked to do it the first time.
SNAP! The lights go out and both Syms disappear just as suddenly!
Bixxti squints through the darkness and calls out "hey, didn't the other lab coats say not to make too many of the fancy Syms? Did you break it, lab coat?"
