Most 'Cubi know how to defend themselves, with or without their wing-tentacles. Niall is no exception.
Having been raised in a medieval area of Furrae, he's sufficiently familiar with adventuring to be able to pose as one.

While he's not known for murder, Niall has occasionally resorted to deadly force to save others from unjust persecution and is quite capable of taking someone's head off with that big, shiny sword. Fortunately this is a rare event, and one that Daryil will overlook if the cause was just.

These days he mostly adopts that look to fit in in places where adventurers would be, or occasionally just because it looks cool.
