While this could be surely something great, I dont think showing the process live can be a good thing. I think the leaders wants to say that they are similar with the population, so providing security to everyone is better. If they show the results live for them, they would need to show the results related with everyone. Some people can have enemies (in many ways, levels and situations). Allowing everyone to know who got reduced or not can result in early problems, mainly for people that can't afford security.
Hm, I'm not sure it would set a precedent for a public database of those who have been shrunk. I think in my mind it was more a matter of "This process is real and safe. To prove that it is and that those who are reduced will be treated fairly, we're going to prove it."

We must see what will happen, but i think maybe they really relate size with power. So maybe this would mean, a shrunk leader is not so visually relevant as a normal size one? I dont know, there could be also collateral effects in being shrunk... And there's also the fact that these leaders failed with everyone by letting these problems to happen. So even they trying to find a solution, trying to find better leaders is also a important factor.
Now that I know the next pages don't go down this path, "we will find substitutes" is basically saying "The micros can't hold jobs and we'll make no effort toward making sure they can", and probably is the most worrisome part of the decision. How do you just remove a third of your workforce and expect that not to be a problem?
