Original Song Here
The backing is the instrumental version of the theme, I was just experimenting and seeing if I could sing this song.... I also tried arranging the theme in midi format earlier but I didn't like what I got.
I was frustrated at not being able to sing lately and today I decided to record what I sound like with a cold. Just a short sample. I do have plans to record this properly at some point when I have gotten rid of this cold.
I only learned the song today (though I've always known the music, just not the lyrics) so I am still trying to get it as correct as possible.
I've loved this theme for years, along with a hundred other FinalFantasy tunes. Definately the best OSTs out there in my opinion.

Yeah my voice is usually a bit more powerful and controlled than this but my cold has subdued it. :)
I've been itching to sing my heart out for the last few days but this nasty cold smacked me around a bit so I couldnt until today. My voice is all funny at the moment X3
Thanks very much for your comment !

Oh, I totally forgot to mention >.<;; I will edit it now. Uusually I explain the backing track and what I did and didn't make myself. This one is just the orchestrated version I nabbed. It is exactly the same as the link I put in my submission comment :) But I am working on finding a backing track that was made specially for me to sing on, I am not sure if I can get it though.
I'm not sure if It would be what you want, but I play pretty much every rock band instruments and do my own backing tracks for my stuff. The best would be if you ever wanted like, a men's quarted behind a solo line. Listen to my stuff and know that it's always an option (plus having you sing on something associated with me would certainly boost my popularity).
Haha~ I know, I guess it came out this way after I sang it about 20 times. My nose/throat wasn't so bad when I did this last ngiht, but today I definately annot sing in tune, my nose is too blocked up! I am considering recording myself to show people how bad my spoeaking voice is. It is pretty random how it was semi ok last ngiht, but I think the difference is that my voice is not as powerful or as sharp as usual.
*laughs* I promise I am not lying. I've suffered terribly since sunday :P But I am past the worst of it I think, and I had a lucky evening last night when I did this. I think it's still clear I am stuffy though on this recording compared to usual, My vocals are definately a lot mellower.
I tend to record, then find like ONE thing i don't like. I am obsessive. Even in this take on the snippet here I am grumbling over a few places where I believe I am weaker. The thing is I hate singing in smaller parts, like, recording a line, stopping, recording the next etc. I record the whole lot in one go, so this was one take. x_x So when I mess up I have to record the whole thing over XD It gets really stressful but I prefer the natural flow of vocals like this isntead of stop starting.
When I was doing my Music Tech course, I was notorious for the 150+ Take studio sessions. I'd keep people in the studio for as long as it took... and then some just in case they still had a little bit of magic left in them. I'd try several different takes. I'd break the parts into the usual Intro, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, Ending, etc. I'd have a few full takes, especially for the drummers (poor guys) and I'd also throw in some ad-libbing and other flourishes just so they wouldn't get bored. You never know, you might get something interesting on the spur of the moment!
Oh I agree... I also looked at music tech courses a bit a few years ago but I don't know if it's really for me. I have no idea what I could even do with it. Besides people were telling me you had to have some kind of grade to get in music-wise. But is that true?? I recorded my older songs in hundreds of takes as well, sometimes I would make it up on the spot with the backnig as well like guitar solos and the like. I was a bit sloppy like that. These days I do it a bit differently. Also my computer doesnt seem to like me doing too many tracks or takes, i guess the audio disk gets a bit clogged and the memory is too low... I only have 2gb ram I think... My PC is three years old now and was the best when I got it. It's annoying how fast these things improve :P
I have never had piano lessons, yet I picked it up pretty well by learning things by ear. Maybe you could learn on your own since you already have a musical sense? I can play To Zanarkand a little but not all the way. I tend to improvise though and I can't sight-read music. It's frustrating because my mind just picks music up by ear and I learn it that way which means I know no theory work at all. My guitar teacher used to scold me a bit for not reading music and pretending I was :P XD
From my experience, lessons make it easier to start playing an instrument, but they only go so far for me. I've never been formally trained, and I'm not a graded pianist. Despite that, it would appear I can play Mussorgsky (check my most recent submission, plug plug). If you have the willpower and dedication, you'll be able to play whatever you want.
I agree, for some people, being taught isn't the best way to learn. I can pick up most instruments and play them, after a few minutes I will have managed to play a tune on an instrument I don't know. I think it's jsut down to my ear rather than skill. I might never be amazing at one isntrument, but I guess that's the trade off for having such keened hearing. I would love to actually learn the piano though, I think I have potential there. My hands are pretty small though XD
Say what you want about your talents, but I think you are well on the way of mastering at least one instrument: your voice.
As for myself, I really suck at performing for an audience. I can't even play in front of family without screwing something up. My last school recital had my hands shaking like a leaf. I was barely holding together. XD

I have the same problem... well I used to, last time I tried. I haven't performed that many times because I am so shy about it. That's why professional singing or whatever would scare the crap out of me XD I shake a lot too, I understand what it's like. I used to hate standing in front of class doing verbal presentations too, I'd go red and stutter a lot x_x I dreaded it so much.
I can sing quite well live now, maybe practise helps :s I would like to preform I suppose jsut to see if I can. But I am still scared!

I was thinking about that soo long now. I managed to learn guitar by myself without lessons, but I don't know if this would word with keyboard. The sound of a piano is so awesome and calming, so I really want to play, but neither I have the money for a teacher, nor I have time to practice regularly.
And I know what you mean Lily, I can't read notes >.< When I play guitar I also play by chords like everyone else but notes... I can remember where I borrowed a keyboard from a friend once... took me 2 days to learn Halos Peril via youtube videotutorial, but I felt it wasn't right, since I only learned the order of keys to be played by heart. I don't know, I am very confused with this all... there are days where I'd love to play and there are some days where I think I will never manage to play good enough. Sounds a bit stupid, I know, but my friends said that I have a musical sense so I cannot really decide what to do.

Thing with piano is having an actual piano too. I mean, I grew up with a synthesizer keyboard type thing, it was massive and you could make your own synthesised sounds on it. I was lucky to have it I think. I used to compose my own things when I was really young and I recorded them onto casettes XD My dad gave me a book of Beatles sheet music, and I tried to teach myself how to read the notes, but I jsut couldnt learn on my own at that point. But I found that instictively I could learn things from listening to them. If I hear a song for the first time, by the next verse or chorus I already know each instrument part and the drumming pattern and the melodies. Maybe you can do the same by the sounds of it... I thought you mentioned getting a keyboard recently? Or were you just looking into getting one? I don't remember.
^_^!! Oh wow, thank you for such a nice comment... I am smiling because it made me happy that someone I watch/admire likes my singing x_x! I obviously don't speak/know japanese so I always worry that I am not accenting the right parts of the vocals, if that makes sense, and also I can't help sounding english when I try to pronounce the sounds. It will never be perfect but oh well. I learn it by listening so I can only do so much.
Fortunately singing lets you get away with murdering a language so long as you put on a convincing performance.
While not exactly related to singing, our lovely former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once gave a speech in French. The reason this is notable is because she couldn't speak a lick of it, and it became so well known that French ambassadors would make witty and degrading remarks about her in French while in her presence. She had learned of this, and asked her speech to be prepared and written phonetically so that she could at least pretend she was bluffing the whole time. It worked. The offending ambassadors weren't too comfortable sitting through that speech as she had managed to put on such a convincing performance that even they were fooled by it.

Hahaha she was certainly a firecracker about most things she did, and she was such a strong woman to stand up in what was a man's game really - that's exactly the type of thing I would do. Seeing those ambassadors squirm must have been awesome XD. You're right I guess, but I don't have help with my pronounciation other than listening. It's probably not TOO bad, but it's hard to make it sound so convincing if you don't know the theory behind the sounds and stuff in a language. I used to get told that when I spoke italian that I pulled it off really well, I guess it's all related to my hearing again.
Jeez. I have anecdotes for practically everything! One of my workmates at EA was Italian. One day, I had been playing a fair amount of Rock Manager (crappy music manager simulation game, but an entertaining distraction regardless) and we got chatting about something. I just so happened to close the conversation with a quote I heard in the game... completely instinctively. It happened to be an Italian phrase apparently, and he looked at me with surprise and asked me if I spoke Italian... in Italian. I could just about understand that, but I had to confess that I couldn't speak a word of it. Oh crazy days! And I'm taking over your comments section! (Perhaps it's time to switch to MSN... HINT HINT)
Oh well. World domination has to start somewhere!

I really appreciate your comment :) I just never look at it that way at all. I would love to sing forever, I really enjoy singing so much. But I never see it as more than a hobby or something. I just don't believe I can go anywhere with it. I guess I have never tried to go anywhere with it so I don't know... I mean looking at all the things people say about my singing should give me a massive ego boost but it just doesn't work XD
No you're kind of right. I found it really hard to turn my art hobby into commission work, i still get nerves over it. But it is necessary at the moment for me to do it.
I honestly think I would be rubbish at performing. Maybe I would get used to it though. I don't know really.

hey, you never know unless you try, but once you try something like that it will be hard to go back. at least your hobby isn't like mine where I'll eventually end up in a box from it. (I ski some of the most dangerous slopes in the world and I'm never satisfied with anything except the most dangerous and life threatening slopes) feel lucky you have a beautiful and safe passion that hundreds of people like me enjoy and appreciate.
I got a new one ;o; it's so cute. And really inexpensive. It's called the Go-Mic by Samson who are notorious for good microphones as far as I can see. The mic I got is a condenser mic with three settings for either room recording or focussed omni directional recording (ie, the stuff I do, vocals and guitar seperately and cleanly).
It cost me £32.50. Seriously incredible buy, usually it's around £70. :D

Within the first six seconds, I knew that this song would be in the top five most beautiful ever written. It takes #4.
1- Ballad of the Wind Fish (Final Version, with all 8 instruments)
2- Lilium (Theme of Elfen Lied)
3- Aerith Theme (Original, from FFVII)
4- This
5- Cruel Angel's Thesis (Neon Genesis Evangalion) (Not sure of spelling on that)
