Really? I got the impression that he was a fan favorite. Almost the Digimon equivalent of Lucario I'd assume.

No no, I mean he's underutilized within the franchise, not the fanbase.

At this point in time he is relegated to just being part of one of many series within the franchise; Savers/Data Squad. As well as a few video games. Perhaps he'll get more roles as time goes by.

Gaomon is quite literally the reason I ended up watching the entire Japanese series (with English subtitles) long before ever watching the American version of the series.

Not a bad reason. I have a soft spot for Gaomon too, and I should definitely draw him more myself. He's definitely got a nice, cute design and personality.
