UPDATE, 3/11/21: Hello, Jun from the future! I have come back and done some grammatical fixes to my old baby! I shall be doing this to the other stories so hold on tight!
In a small, messy laboratory, it's all quiet albeit from the soft humming of scientific equipment running.‘’ Ugh’’ a groggy moan permeates the silence and a figure, which was slumped over a table with documents and notes, rises from,” looks like I fell asleep in the lab...again”
Jun brushed aside his dark brown hair and stretched his body. He was met with his body making a few cracks, limbering up. He grabbed his glasses off of the table due to his body decided to have an impromptu nap on the table during another long day of work. He brushed his lab coat with his hand and started making his way out of the pile of papers amassed around his desk.
He looked down and once again spots the same old junk and letters that he got yesterday's mail. ‘’Scams, college asking for more money from donations, ads, and another rent reminder from the landlord, he’s a good man but boy he does not need to give out reminders every week, I know how to keep a schedule, come on’’ Jun muttered angrily.
One thing that he didn’t get was an acceptance letter, Jun knew that getting accepted to being a professor's assistant would be winning the lottery even if his score was within the top ten of the school but, he still had hope. He also didn’t want to fall back on what some of his other classmates did, turning to crime. Well, more the organized crime. Surprisingly they were more jobs available with almost all of the mafias and crime than any region's scientific labs. Also the jobs, through dubious, apparently paid well. It was one of the reasons why he changed his focus from marine biology to genetics. There were more job offerings for genetic scientists than marine biologists but, by the time he got out of school, there were few jobs available. So with few options available, he decided to turn his small apartment into his science lab. He worked as a clerk for a local law office and saved enough money to buy some old equipment for a few school and lab garage sales and a nice place to stay. Now using all of his sick leave and vacation time, Jun has started to try to make some headway in genetics and try to find at least a lead to write a paper and maybe start to be recognized by some of the professors.
He made his way over to one of the corners of his ‘lab’ where a small kitchenette lies. He pressed a button on the small coffee machine causing it to come to life. He sits down on a chair next to the coffee maker and looks through his scribbles and notes he wrote last night. Jun couldn’t remember a lot from last night but hopes his notes can jog his memory. Going through the notes he starts to once again piece the incoherent thoughts back together. There was a list of Pokemon that could help with finding a lead for the Pokemon genetics ranging from the mythical mew to the genetic soup that is Eevee and its evolutions. Through, one of the names that Jun wrote down stuck out to him, not only due to it being the last one before the pencil makes a line to the side of the paper, when he probably started to fall asleep, it was the name he wrote down. Zoroark.
‘’Zoroark’’ Jun mumbles “What connection did I make there?” He sets down his notes and looks over to his coffee machine, which has almost completed filling the pot. “Zoroark, that’s the Pokemon that disguises itself as other Pokemon right? Yea, how could it make itself look identical to another Pokemon. If it was a move, other Pokemon would be able to do it as well…” Jun moved back over to his desk that he had previously made a bed.” If it’s the only Pokemon that can do that, then something within its genetics allows that to happen” Jun moved a few scattered papers on the desk and pulled out a piece of paper. He quickly scribbled down the information and wrote his hypothesis down. Just as he was finishing writing down his theory, the coffee machine beep but Jun didn’t care he had what he had been looking for, he found a lead.
It had taken a few days but, bartering online with someone in Unova for a few samples all for a few packs of collectible cards that were only in Kanto had made it easy to strike up a deal. When he received the package, he was excited and hoped that his luck had finally turned around. He brought over the package and put it onto his desk. Jun had asked for blood samples, hair samples, saliva samples, and anything else relevant that he should know about.
When Jun opened the crate, he was met with a trove of items. He took a moment to take the items, a rack of different test tubes, and he started to layout on the desk. He pulled out blood, samples, saliva swabs, packaged hair even excrement but one stood out from the rest. It was a test tube that was filled with some sort of viscous liquid. Attached to the tube where a small note and a piece of string was wrapped around it. Jun looked at the not “Thanks for the cards, so here’s a little gift from me to you, -J” Jun read aloud “Cool but, what the hell is it?” He set it back down with the other test tubes and sighed. He had a lot of work to do and he was ready to make history.
9 hours later…
It turns out, he was not ready. At all. The entire setup from a genetic standpoint was entirely different from what the soup that was Eevee’s genetics which he was studying before. The DNA didn’t show obvious signs like the Eevee’s had, though he had only worked a day in a whole other ballpark. He slumped back down into his chair. He took a sip of his cold coffee that cooled down hours ago and sighed. As he took a small break, Jun thought about any pieces that could help. “ What am I missing in which Zoroark can change. Is it behavioral? What causes it?” He looks over his samples and his eyes are drawn back to the mysterious test tube. “It's that what causes it?’ he walks over to the test tube rack and picks it up. He sits back down and grabs a petri dish and a microscope. Jun grabbed the test tube and pours a little bit out onto the petri dish. As Jun pours in the mysterious liquid, a little drop rolls over the lip and drops down onto the desk. Jun puts the dish underneath the microscope and folds up his glasses and puts them down on the desk. As Jun is looking at the sample, the drop of liquid that escaped moves over and onto the temple tips of the glasses.
Jun was amazed by the sample, the reason why however was that he had no clue what he was looking at. Under the microscope, nothing matched up to anything biological he had ever seen before. Jun laughed as he drew himself away from the microscope. Had this been the piece that he had been looking for? He picked up and put on his glasses and brought the sample over to the DNA sequencer and the mass spectrometer and put a sample into both of the machines. As he finally calmed down from the possibility of making a scientific breakthrough he noticed something funny about his ears. ‘’Hmmm,” he brought up his hand to fix with his glasses and ears and felt something different. His ears maybe were big, but they weren’t that big or furry. He brought his hands back down and gasped in shock. His hand did not look like hands anymore, they were dark almost like fur? And at the end of his hands, three red claws almost like...a...Zoro...ark. Staring into his hands, he could see whatever had done this, it wasn’t going to stop as it slowly crawled up his hands. “Oh no, no, no,” Jun said as he made his way through the lab to his lab safety area known as the bathroom.
He opened the door and quickly turned on the sink and placed his transforming hands under the sink to try and wash them off but to no effect. Jun looked up to see that most of the right arm has been covered making its way onto his back. His lab coat did nothing to stop whatever was happening nor was anything else. Quickly thinking, Jun took everything out of his pockets, his wallet, his keys, and most importantly, his phone. Though it was tough to open the phone, he quickly pulled up the camera and switched it to video recording, and turned it on “Ah, this is Jun, a scientist working on zoroark DNA and I was working with some sort of sample that came with the other stuff, whatever you do, do not touch the black liquid, there is some on the DNA sequencer, the spectrometer, the petri dish with the microsco-”
Jun is cut off by shaking due to liquid moving down his back causing some of his back to crack and felt the weight of his head move back a bit more due to the amount of red and black hair growing on his head with no end in sight. His legs quickly fail beneath him, causing Jun to grab onto the sink in order not to fall onto the ground. With pained grunts, his leg structure changing to a more animalistic structure “The microscope and probably some more on my desk. Don’t touch it even with safety gear, it doesn’t care whatever you do, DON’T touch the liquid.” Jun finishes, he turns his attention to his still changing body. The goo has finished traveling over now both of his arms. As he touches both of his hands? Paws? Together, he can feel them on his arms. He shouldn't be able to, but he can feel. Jun also looks at the rest of his body. His feet look like a mangled mess with his toes near the front being the new center of balance that his heels. The fur now finishing near the top of his chest filling in a darker color and his hair almost reaching the floor, there appeared to be only one thing left. The one that Jun was worried about, the head. The right side of his face had already become numb a while ago and was now coming near the rest of his face to finish the job. Jun was afraid, not due to the probable pain he was about to endure but, what might happen after, would he still remember anything, would he still be himself? These thoughts were pushed to the side as his face started to change.
Through his face was partially numb, it didn’t stop it from being a huge amount of discomfort. The goo pushed and molded itself at an uncomfortably slow rate. Jun’s Glasses were quickly pushed off of his face leaving him partially blind before the goo took over the spots where his eyes were. The goo also went into his nose and mouth and started to change them and started to form what would be his muzzle. Jun felt like he couldn’t breathe like he was underwater, the goo had already entered his mouth and nose and had no point in stopping up there. His worries started to die down when he felt his mouth start to become empty and he could breathe again. ‘At least don't have to worry about suffocation now, hurray’ He thought. Soon his vision was starting to come back to him, almost too well. When his eyes cleared, the first thing he realized was that he could see without glasses. ‘Cool’ he thought ‘I might have just lost my humanity but hey, I now don’t need to wear glasses.’ Jun pulled himself from the ground and supported himself on his toes with the help of the sink. When he looked up at the mirror, he saw a zoroark stare back into him. “Well shit,” Jun said dishearteningly. A moment passed before “O Arceus, I can still speak, phew.” As his stance now released tension he didn’t know he had built up, Jun decided to get a closer look at his new body.
His entire body had been changed into a zoroark from his newly made paws down to his now digitigrade feet. His claws were definitely sharp but, he wondered how he was now going to get anything done if he couldn’t hold a pen or pencil correctly. The clothes he was wearing looked like they didn’t make it away from the goo, making him glad he pulled everything out of his pockets earlier. The claws at the end of his feet made a small clicking noise when he walked or flexed his feet. ‘I’m probably going to have to file these down’ Jun thought. His new hair felt like he had to balance his head a little differently due to how much there now was suddenly. Also near the end of his hair was a bead that enclosed around the hair adding a little color to a black and red theme. Finally, Jun looked at his new face. His ears were definitely bigger than what they were before, and he had big ears. The ears also could move independently, which Jun thought to be a little cool. His attention was soon brought to his new mouth, er, muzzle. Just like his old nose, you could focus to see it but it normally lays out of sight. Jun opened his mouth to see and a new set of teeth, much more animalistic than before with sharp teeth. Lastly, Jun looked into his eyes, it revealed maybe the only physical thing that didn’t change, his eye color. Jun stared into the unblinking sight in the mirror before he pulled away from the sink. Jun took another glance at the mirror and sighed “Welp time to clean up the lab” He walked out of his bathroom with more questions than answers.
After the lab had been cleaned and a pot of coffee had been consumed, Jun made a few discoveries. One is that the goo now didn’t have any effect on him, probably because what had happened now causes it not to attach. Second, the mass spectrometer had found some interesting in its test. The sample contained traces of Manganese, copper, sulfur, and an unknown element that made up a majority of the sample. The DNA sequencer also found a sample that it could not match any Pokemon DNA with. Another mystery that Jun can hopefully answer later. The third was that having coffee now is the best thing ever. The taste and smell and evolved to make coffee even better than it is now, he made a mental note to try other food and drinks later. He sighed with contempt as he places his mug down. As he places his mug down, he notices the note that was left with the test tubes. Jun looks back at the note and pulls it off of the string. He moves over to his computer and looks back to the address from Unova. The person who sent it must have had to know what would happen if he were to have contacted it. With a quickly typed letter, without impaling his keyboard, hoping to answer what had happened, he came across his first major roadblock.
Jun stared at the door, a door which never had impeded him before now seems like a mountain. How was he going to go into town? A zoroark just walking around in Kanto would stick out like a sore thumb and talking and interaction like a person would definitely raise a few questions, ones that some groups may want his body to answer if he could not. He looked down at the letter in his hand and sighed. He was about to turn around before he realized something, Zoroark’s powers! He could transform! With a renewed fervor, Jun ran back into the bathroom and focused. He closed his eyes and thought about how he looked like before. ‘Come on, I know what I use to look like, come on’ he thought. He let out a breath and thought he should stop before a cool sensation washed over his head. It moved its way down his body down to his toes. After the sensation faded, he opened his eyes to see his old body stare back at him. Almost. His hair now kept the same coloration of a zoroark albeit with way less hair than before. Jun let out a huge smile and did a little jump and victory dance. Once again Jun left and made his way past his front door and into town where hopefully answers will come his way.
