||<<<PREVIOUS||FIRST||NEXT>>>||Eve has grown in mind and spirit, she was around 14 now. Click was by her side as much as she possibly could without overexerting herself in her powers, she barely has spent time in Paradise now since ‘her’ human is here. Time travel took a lot of energy going back and forth, but Click always did her best. Time passed by so quickly, but what was learned along the way did not go unheeded. Click sighed contently, a soft breeze wafting over her fur while watching Eve practicing in the fields. Tonight was her big night, but somehow, she didn’t seem at all nervous. She constantly mumbled to herself, perfecting every move and starting her routine over and over. Eve wanted the night to go ‘perfect’ she said, and Click agreed with the sentiments. She rarely ever took a break or rested for more than a moment; of which, Click would sometimes come to her to remind her how important rest is. Her parents wouldn’t want their child to overexert herself, a wisdom that was always passed along the camp. So, Eve would take Clicks advice and at least stop to eat some breakfast and lunch, have a chat with her mother and father, then straight back to more practice.
The day went on, Click basked in the warm sun, taking in the rays every once in a while as she watched Eve. After a few more perfected attempts, Eve then stops to look at Click feeling great about herself. Click crickets at Eve happily and puffs out her fur and feathers. “I love you too, Click” she smiled, her bright blue eyes seemingly shining with the sunlight. “Hey, I’ve been thinkin’... I’ve never really tried this before, but you can protect me, right?” she stared out to the ocean, “ya think I can jump it?” Click tilted their head, her concern growing, slowly getting onto their feet. “What the hey, right? It’ll be refreshing!” she then bolted towards the edge, Click scrambled to catch up to stop her when she then jumps. In an instant, Click was right behind her, spreading her wings and grabs onto Eve bracing for impact to the water below. Moments later, they were in the icy cold waters below. Click immediately sprung to action, maneuvering herself to grab onto Eve’s shirt to tug her to the surface and to the shore. Eve miraculously sped up that process by working with Click to go to the shore. Has… has she swam before? Where has Click been for this? It wasn’t important now, Eve’s safe, that’s all that mattered to Click. Once on shore, Eve laid on the pebble beach seemingly laughing to herself while Click shook the seawater off her fur. “I’m sorry for frightening you Click, I just needed to be sure you still had my back. You should’ve seen your face though, you didn’t know I could swim? Hello, I have been living by the ocean for all my life of course I know how to swim.” Click sighed then smiled at Eve, she was frustrated but relieved that Eve was ok. “Alright, a nice dip in the sea, let’s get all dry and prepare for my big reveal tonight!” she squealed in excitement beginning the climb back up to the camp, Click trailing right behind.
The sun was setting, Eve told Click to not follow her so it could be a surprise. Click had a hard time discerning between ‘stay with the human’ and ‘stay away from the human for a short amount of time, and oh I just hope they’re ok while I’m gone’. As an attempt to distract herself, she went around to gather roses that were accidentally dropped on the ground. She only chose ones that looked the most pristine. Eventually, she had an entire bouquet in her mouth, which was a pretty great accomplishment in itself. Quickly as it came, a large crowd of humans started turning up for this ‘special show’ that’s been advertised on posters, newspapers, and telegrams. Definitely a much bigger crowd than usual, which made Click a little nervous. Perhaps, she’s just nervous for Eve. It was her big night after all, maybe she’s just being empathetic. She shook her body to calm herself and entered the tent hidden amongst the crowd. She sat in the very front, the “special seat” Eve liked to call it, awaiting for the show and ultimately Eve to make her debut.
It took awhile for the normal routines to move along, then it was announced for Eve to be next. Click got happy feet, awaiting Eve to show up. Then, she makes her appearance. She was dressed in beautiful attire and her hair in a tight bun. She smiled at Click and did some air kisses to the audience, one towards Click to not make herself look odd. Her routine began, the audience in awe with her performance. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a whiff of smoke entered Click’s nose. Confused, she took several more whiffs. It smells like the campfire or one of the torches… but it was more than that. She got up to her feet, sniffing around and searches for the source. Then a scream was let out on one end of the tent, then fire sprang up one of the entrances. Eve immediately stopped her routine, looking out to the audience then to the fire. In moments, the entire audience began to funnel to the other side to the last entrance not engulfed in flames. Click looked to Eve, where the gold presence she had in her vision and the red symbols… seemed to merge to just red. Horrified, Click screeched to Eve as she made her way down from above. As her feet touched the ground, a crackle of wood could be heard in the distance falling in front of the first entrance. Click’s ears pinned, scrambling to reach Eve. Eve called to Click, coughing from the soot and smoke. In moments, Click grabbed onto Eve’s costume and tugged her along through the blaze and terrified crowd attempting to leave. Then a large crack of wood. The main structure holding the tent up started to tremble and sway. Click remained focused, attempting to get Eve out of the flames. The crowd was at a standstill, attempting to leave, trampling over each other to leave. To Eve and Click’s dismay, they were trapped. Eve cried holding onto Click’s fur as Click attempted to move past the crowd. The flames were then all around the tent, trapping everyone inside including Eve. As a last ditch attempt, Click crawled underneath the wooden bleachers, coaxing Eve to come with her. She then wrapped around Eve, who was coughing a lot from the impending smoke and soot, tears streaming down their face as the flames raged on. The main structure then collapses, burning cloth and debris now on the ground creating more smoke and heat. Click shook in fear, holding Eve tightly as she watched the red glow brightly around Eve until… it vanished.
Her fur puffed in terror, she nosed at Eve and waited for her response.
Nothing.
“Eve?” her ears wiggled in horror pawing at Eve.
Still nothing.
She tugged at her ears, her hair, pawed at her eyes.
Nothing.
Click screeched, getting up and desperately head butted her head.
Nothing.
Panicked, Click tried to concentrate to go back in time by just a little, before the fire.
Now exhausted, Click appeared to when Eve was getting dressed in her caravan tent. Click mustered up enough energy to run to Eve and start tugging at the fabric of her clothes. “Click, what are you doing here? I thought I told you it’s a surprise” Eve wiggled Click away, not even noticing the remaining soot on her fur. Click stubbornly tugs harder at Eve, growling at her. “Click, please, I have to get ready for tonight. It’s no time to play” she firmly moved away from Click, continuing to get dressed. Click huffed frustrated, continuing to try to distract Eve away from going to the tent.
To no avail, the fire happened again. This time, Click had much less energy as she dragged Eve, more quickly this time, to attempt to go to safety.
One more time. Click failed, barely having the energy to attempt to get Eve to a safer place. Her vision blurred and doubled, trying to have Eve safe. Passing out among the flames, with Eve by her side. "
