This is probably as generic a base mesh I can make before I take this into Z-Brush. Not much to look at currently, but the idea is a generic body to work with so you can take it different directions once you get into detailing.
I'm debating on using XSI hair / fur engine, but short hair will require no fewer than one bazillion hairs on the model, and my processor would likely catch fire trying to render it. Still, I'll run some tests with it and see what happens.
The overall plan is a decent rendered image of my own EQ-II character over on the Crushbone server. If I get it that far, I'll be impressed :D

The base mesh turned out ok, though there are some problems with it now that I have it in Zbrush.
The fingers flattened out for some reason, and symmetry doesn't appear to be perfect for some reason.
Even though the original mesh was cut in half and mirrored, the symmetry isn't working as well as it should
once I have it in Z.
The short version is imagine making a stroke on one side of the mesh. While the other side gets the same
stroke, it isn't identical. So while subtle, it's creating a huge headache atm. :| Going to have to see
what is causing it.

Solved my mesh problem finally.
When I zoomed in to the atomic level on the mesh, I noted the defined center was slightly offset from the world center. This, in turn, slightly offset the mesh symmetry once in Zbrush and caused my issues. Since that has been remedied, I can get on with the detailing.
This is usually the point where I wish I had some traditional artistic background. Anatomy specifically would be a great benefit here :D

LOL Hell no.
To be honest, I haven't made much progress with anything 3D related lately as frustration seems to kill my motivation.
I've been trying to work on a reptile bust but cannot, for the life of me, get it to look quite right. It's damn maddening.
So much so, I'm playing with the camera and macro lens in the interim until I get my motivation back on track :D
