B is for BLOOD GOD!!
colour comming soon as this links up with another idea with someone I was talking to of making a red lantern corps, but 40k!
it also unfortunatly got me to build a backstory for these bastards...
ahem...
The lights of Sanguineious were part of the 13th cursed founding. Permitting the magus biologos and other members of the mechanicus genetic branch to tinker with their gene seed, the Blood angels had hopes of removing the black rage from their genetic heritage, thus ensuring the chapter have a future. for the first century all seemed well and the chapter was encouraged to recruit to become full strength. The black rage was all but gone, not a single member suffering the effects. however, each marine carried a potent rage of their own. a temper that could snap under due stress. a small price to pay for the future of all the red angels linage.
So hopeful were the blood angels and their successor chapters that the new founded chapter was named the lights of sanguinious, and were gifted a relic said to have been made by the primarch himself; a large decorative lamp so detailed and finely made of gold, silver, ruby and glass that the light of a single candle within was refracted and amplified to the power of a flood light. This gift inspired the fledgling chapter to take up their own lamps, albeit small and more hearty, for they would wear them into battle, anointed in sacred oils prior to combat. Every marine was a light in the future of the primarchs sons, and so they would wear such a light adorning each member, lite as they go to battle.
After a long and arduious battle against heretics of chaos, and backed by a world eater force, the Lights were unable to preform their sacred rites upon their lanterns, for they were missing the blessed oils to coat the lights of the lamps. Until one Chaplin gave the idea that they were the blood of the great angel lord, and their blood alone was a holy substance. The ritual of smearing blood on the lanterns became common practice in warzones to cover the glassteel of the lamps with their own blood. It both dealt with honouring their primarch and his founding chapters namesake, and the advantage of covering the light that would have given away their positions as the blood dried.
But there was a cancer at work, one of the blood gods own ministrations. no one knows when it occured but soon the lamps were coated in the blood of their enemies, chemically treated to keep the blood clear and wet, shining a red light off the lamps. A testimant to all who looked upon the greater lanterns fixed to the vehicles as a promise of death and more. eventually they were declared excomunicate under crimes of human sacrifices.
Lost, the chapter was easily taken under the wing of a band of khornate Iron warriors. since then the chapter has been lost. Traitors carrying out their rituals of lighting blood red lamps smeared with blood intobattle. the chapter has since renamed themselves the Beacons of Khorne.
It is said that the relic given to them has become twisted and blood rusted into a sick, mocking image, and is carried into battle by the chapter master himself upon his personal land raider.
