Alright, here's the finished thing, sort of. I still plan on trimming it into a square, but I'm going to blab on about how I finished it and spare everyone else. Only people who really give a crap look at my scraps anyhow.
The robe is finished, all smooth like I said. The furry parts were a little more complex. I layered short strokes to make it more like fur. I'd put them on, often in this order for the gray bits: 50% cool gray, espresso, 70% cool gray. I used more of the Espresso brown and darker gray for the darker bits, and the lighter grey and a light blue for the lighter bits, doing a gradient-thing.
The wispy bits were fun to do, and the smudgy frost streaks on the ice were cool too. My trick? Smudge fluid flowing lines together with a white vinyl eraser. Too hard and you'll pick up most of the color, but soft it's a great smeary blender. Make sure you put down enough pencil to actually smear, too, because if there's not enough it will simply get picked up.
The blurry portion of him, including his tail, was winged. I distorted it and hoped it would look okay, I call success. One thing I did with intent was add bits of blue and red reflecting in the ice. Look carefully, especially around the edges. Sweet, huh?
Any other questions?
