My mom likes to oven roast vegetables seasoned with some oil and maybe a dash of garlic, and sometimes she'll throw in some mushrooms.
Lemme tell ya home roasted mushrooms are the best. Same for home roasted veggies too.

When you decide to try making them yourself, use Crimini or Portabellas. Before you bake them in the oven, remove the stem and place them cap-side up on a microwave safe plate, with a few paper towels under them. Put in the microwave and cook on high for three minutes.

They'll release most of their liquid, and when you put them in the oven, they will actually bake, getting nice and meaty, instead of squishy and bland.

It's so funny that I upload a little character while eating a baked mushroom and I've already got a handful of recipes for how to make cool baked mushrooms (or other vegetables). :D Thanks for the tips!
