The PlayStation 2 (officially branded as PS2) is a home video game console developed and marketed by Sony Computer Entertainment. It was first released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, 2000, and in Europe and Australia on November 24, 2000, and is the successor to the original PlayStation, as well as the second installment in the PlayStation console line-up. A sixth-generation console, it competed with Sega's Dreamcast, Nintendo's GameCube, and Microsoft's original Xbox.
My back story on the PS2 is very straightforward the main reason I got the PS2 is just that, a cheaper DVD player that can also play both CD music and PS1 and PS2 games, period. BTW the very first DVD movie I got was 2001 A Space Odyssey. Out side that it was my very first gaming console I ever pre-ordered it at EB Games and I been playing ton of demo games untill Metal Gear Solid 2 came out many of the first run launch games I never bother of getting ANY of them until later years even though there were over 28 games in all and they are

That is a worthy testimony to have so many launch games. Shows that third parties had confidence in Sony making a worthy product. And, I suspect they went with a common platform for programming on...unlike Nintendo with their Sun Computers.
For one, I was highly satisfied with the PS2 with most of it's aspects. Though, I do feel that it was susceptible to dust contamination that would affect laser performance in the long run. And it's DVD function was absolutely the worst. Sure. It could do DVD and gaming in one package. But, it struggled with minor damage on DVD's that practically every other player around wouldn't even flinch at. I felt that Sony nailed these issues with the PS3, on-wards.
Another worthy footnote is that this console could be upgraded with a net modem. Not too much supported that optional modem. But, it was built to have that as an option. Better yet, what few features did exist for this option was supported by Sony for a very long time. I mean...they had the PS4 up and running before they pulled the plug on PS2 net support. That's like a KO to Nintendo, whom yanked on line support to the WiiU, almost as soon as the Switch proved to be their golden child.

I got a PS2on the christmas year of its launch. First game was Armored Core 2. Sadly my fist PS2 was one of the broken ones. Some PS2's on launch could not play video dvds or PS1 games and I was the unlucky kid that got one of them and had to have his xmas gift returned lmao.
Our family got a PS2 the year it came out, right after Christmas when it went on sale. I was only 4 so I didn't do much, and I was still way into my N64. However, because they bought it cheap, it came with alot of weird games, and as I grew older, my Dad kept buying games that he either didn't like or simply liked the price tag of free/cheap.
Around age 7 is when I started playing it, in 2003, after my dad bought Vice City and decided he didn't like video games. I will never forget the countless hours on games like: Monster Jam, Battlefront 2, Sub Rebellion (By far on the most underrated games), Naval Ops: Warship Gunner (A game that is STILL unmatched today in it's game-play and is considered one of my all-time favorites) and the game that, if it wasn't for any other reasons, made me a furry, Ratchet and Clank.
The PS2 was special all the way till I was 10 years old, when my parents divorced. It sounds weird to say this, but if I hadn't had the constant distraction of some of the best the video gaming industry had to offer, I would have probably collapsed. I still play my ps2 games today, and I really don't care for any other console, and even after 2006, and xbox 360 was the only other console I ever owned still.
as for your list of games, I only owned one that you did and that was Q-ball oddly enough.
