He really doesn't. He does this sort of thing all the time, all the way back to that time at the bus stop where he slurped up someone's kid so he could hit on the mom. And then ate her when she wigged out. Luckily a group of aliens of his species follow him around erasing memories and (sometimes) reforming his victims. For political reasons they let him go about his business, they just try to keep it from blowing up into a big stink.
Eblis is at the opposite end of my pred spectrum from the extremely secretive ones. His gets away with a lot of stuff he shouldn’t. If he did get busted and they couldn’t sweep it under the rug it’d create a big political stink and he’d probably get deported from Earth at the least.
