The raptoress eQ_dgUl (or eQ for short), has various abilities. One of those is soul-strip, in which she captures the soul of another living creature, either to use as an energy source, or to simply devour. In this case, my coyote Tannis, is her unfortunate target.
eQ uses a lightening-like energy blast to pull the soul from her victim. The power from that lightning can cause various levels of damage to the soul's host body and in this case, it has literally ripped Tannis' chest open during the process of extracting his soul.
I absolutely love how this came out. The characters, background, lighting, colors, details... everything simply came out wonderful. The use of the lightning to light the scene is amazing, and the details to the characters is simply beautiful; including such things as the awesome feather-work on eQ and the way Tannis' chest is torn open. I also love how Tannis' soul is being drawn out by the lightning, with Tannis able to witness it as it's happening. The expressions on the characters perfectly capture the emotions of the piece.
I really can't thank OrmIrian enough for taking this commission and doing such a phenomenal job with it.

The textures and lighting remind me of Chris Scalf. If you do not know who that is, take it as a HUGE compliment http://chrisscalf.deviantart.com
Every once in a while, an opportunity comes along for something spectacular to occur. This was one of those moments with this piece, even though I am being over dramatic. This piece is just amazing in all regards and details. I am very thankful for you having this commissioned with eQ. Despite the gory nature and that of the character, it is lovely and filled with emotion. Orm is an amazing artist and I wish I would had discovered them sooner.
*smiles* I'm delighted that you like how it turned out. And thank you for allowing me to use eQ.
I always love characters who have unique and interesting ways of taking prey, and I simply couldn't pass by this opportunity. And of course, some scenes just call for a more realistic look to them.:)
I was just fortunate to find someone of Orm's talent who was able to take this as a commission. :D
