Born with the name Tara Benihana to a military family she had always had a desire to serve in the military herself. Her father was a USMC Colonel serving in Okinawa where he met her mother who was a Japanese citizen. Her first years growing up was a clash of two world, Marine and Japanese traditionalism. Her father was an extremely biased individual and automatically treated her as fragile or of a weaker makeup than a male. She had an adverse reaction to this, becoming driven to a greater and greater degree to prove him wrong. When Tara met Tobias Cairn she was seventeen years old. The pure fear she felt being in his presence changed her permanently. She gave up trying to impress a father who me never would be and focused on making herself as strong and agile as she possibly could. Determined to never be afraid to such a degree ever again. When she announced her intent to join the military her father expressly forbid it. A year later she joined the Army as a final insult to her father before cutting ties with her family completely. Her life has lead her to have a negative view of men even though she is heterosexual. Upon completing as many advanced schools as the Army allowed, she actively sought Tobias out. She found him and demanded a place in his unit. Tobias, amused by her audacity and daring, accepted giving her further training that the Army would never allow. She honed herself into an excellent weapon and found a place she belonged. She is the only one of Tobias’s team who wasn’t specifically recruited to it. Her personality is guarded even with those she is close to, a sarcastic wit that she uses to deflect attention from herself when possible. The rare moments she lets her guard down are with those she considers more of a family than even her blood relatives.
