I don't like multiclassing, I have yet to meet someone who does it for other reason than min-maxing. I did it once though and it was hilarious!
My dum-dum 6int barbarian's soul part was eaten away by a mysterious thing our party fought, as it turned out later that thing did it so it could replace that part of my barb's soul and be some sort of a parasite. DM planned to do something with it, a side character arc or whatever, but I owned it by saying fuck it and befriending the shadow and multiclassing into warlock. Later we found a deck of many things, but no the classic one, no, no, a homebrew broken one. I didn't want to pull a card but I got convinced easily as my character was pretty stupid and so our cleric CHALLENGED me to a game! You see now, I had to pull a card. It's worth mentioning a lot of bad shit happened with these cards before... but dumb people are lucky, my card, in terms of "in character" made the shadow stronger, and in terms of game mechanics, I gained three levels in random class, dice roll decided it was warlock. At this point I was more warlock than barbarian. I COULD cast spells and do warlock shit but as a part of my RP I didn't know how to and so just continuously smashed all kinds of everything.
My character had the worst stat roll among party members, had no magic items and the multiclass was useless as feck but I had a blast with him. Despite all of that my party was convinced I was the strongest among them and had a shitload of respect for him even though he was that kind of guy who would throw a javelin into a squirrel out of a window of a king's palace during a feast.. Later he died a hero, sacrificed himself in order to protect the party from an army of undead, bought 'em enough time to turn the tide of battle. I couldn't hope for a better death for him.
God speed you magnificent bastard, may you rest in peace.
