For context Marh is something called an Aluxa

There is an Aluxa mother who lives in the Aluxa colonies of Canun. She is unhappy with her marriage and has a child with someone other than her husband. The mother's family shuns and shames her for this, making life in the city difficult. The mother decides to live outside of the city walls on a rural farm with her sister. They take care of the baby into her early toddler age. While the mother and daughter (Marh) are out foraging for food, they disturb an urn in the remains of a battle of the past. The urn contains blood that harbors a dangerous disease, of which the mother and Marh are afflicted. They rush back to their home after realizing they are sick, then fall unconscious, waking in the morning with no memory of the past, severely mentally stunted. The aunt sees this as a chance to convince the mother of Marh that she never had a child, she lets Marh roam freely untill she get's lost, stumbling into a nearby swamp/marsh. She is found by Kyna, a swamp dweller. Kyna brings Marh back to the Aluxa camp, only to find out that no one there wants her, they pretend to not know who she is. Kyna takes it upon himself to take care of Marh from then on.

Kyna is a man who always wanted a child, but after his wife died many years ago in a civil war, he thought it not possible.
