As an inter-planar traveler, Enigma can't always be assured he has steady access to an alchemist where he travels, nor can he be certain he'll be able to scrounge up the cash necessary to restock his supplies. With that in mind, and access to the Theorum Magistrum's alchemical workshop, it only makes sense for him to learn the art.

He makes more than just potions and poultices. He also makes his own forensic tools, like luminol and fingerprint powder.

Not only can mages learn the sciences, but they should. It only makes the going easier.
