The ursine read the quote aloud, mentally correlating the words to her own self. Her eyes flitted across page after page with unimaginable speed.
It was the fifty-seventh time she’d re-read this book. Every time, she found something new. Every time the simple ink words reignited her resolve. With such an alarming amount of nightmares suddenly surging forth in the dawn of the new decade, Nemui found herself rather enervated. She let out a sigh as the slightly wet and cool plush version of herself seemed to hug her instinctively.
The teddy had a mind of its’ own, metaphorically and literally. It could not speak nor interact past physical motions, but the former consciousness of the previously existing spirit which inhabited the toy seemed protective of its owner. It had sensed the fatigue the ursine felt and suddenly appeared as if able to read Nemui’s mind. She had intended to visit the crystalline lake of Elaenei alone, but found herself grateful for the plush’s silent company.
Page after page was turned, and it was not long until Nemui desired to begin read fifty-eight. As she moved to open the cover, her head lulled and fell back against the gigantic plush behind her, a stubborn tuft of wavy blue hair falling over her face as she let out a single breath of serenity.
Wordlessly, the ever-smiling teddy wrapped its arms around Nemui. Ever vigil, it watched over the dormant Dreamwalker, seemingly sheltering her from harm.
“I want to be near you. Always."the teddy reminded her with a feminine tone, a gentle, childlike voice which soothed Nemui further into a deep slumber.
