I do feel some of the horror vibe from the concept.
I'd say the strafe moves feel kind of awkward and turning feels more natural, especially for this kind of 90 degree rotation "3D" game. I definitely see some core concept in this base prototype alone.
I don't want to put a damper on your goals, but Flash is also kind of dead. It's 2020 and Adobe has already announced discontinuing Flash indefinitely and browsers stopping support for it in this year. You might consider an alternate game engine (GameMaker is pretty easy to pickup) or programming with javascript and HTML5.
