Given the nature of the Super Mario RPGs, I don't see why not. It would be a lot of fun.

If one were made, I would want to play a Shy Guy character.

Yeah. Instead of classes like others, you'd focus on Race. over time, you'd upgrade what you are. Say you're a goomba. you could eventually upgrade to become a goomba with wings, or one with a spiked helmet. I could see it working. Though, I wouldn't know what kind of monsters would be roaming about.

Monsters? Easy, just look at any player's guide for any Mario game and there you go.

well I mean, people can't really play humans, as there's only 2 in that world. ...plus the princess. So you'd have to be things like Toads, or Goombas, or Koopa Troopers, or Yoshi's, etc. so, which would be playable, and which would be monsters?

Well, Pirahna plants come to mind for monsters, as do thwomps. Also, in a lot of MMO's there are the player-characters, and more often than not NPC characters of the same race that need to be taken out for one reason or another.
