I won't get into a lot of details but there's a big project we've been working on for years now and we're finally doing something for it! It involves a few species tho including passerines, so I can explain a lil about them.
They are descendants from the older harpies, human-like creatures with long ears and long wings in place of arms for the most part. The individuals of this species are somewhat short in height and possess very light yet resistant bones to allow for flight. They are omnivorous despite the large fangs and teeth sharper than average humans.
They are divided into two subspecies Solar and Lunar. Solar passerines are the most common, they are active during early morning through the afternoon. These passerines have bright plumage, usually akin to hummingbirds or parrots, that extends to their neck and cheeks. They are very similar to birds. This subspecies is very connected to the Sun and it's warm light. Legends say they served the Sun and it was the source of their magic.
Lunar Passerines are, like their name suggests, a nocturnal variation. Instead of bright plumage they have wings similar to bats and dragons, with fur or scales extending to their neck and cheeks. They are usually slightly larger and heavier than their Solar counterpart. This subspecies is very connected to the Moon and legends say they served it and it was the source of their magic power.
All passerines can transform their wings into human-like arms and hands at will, the wings slowly melt into the new skin and resemble tattoos over their backs, shoulders and part of their arms.
This species is open if you wanna make one but their lore belongs to this project we're working on! That means you'll be free to use them as this specific species there (it's not a species group, it's closer to a role-play group) :>
