I forged a candle holder based off the one in this book here that was written by a Mr. Thomas Francis Googerty. I added a few more tidbits to deviate away from the instruction. The forging exercise doesn't say to rivet feet on at the bottom, but I totally wanted to.
(Googerty believed firmly in the value of teaching young men the craft of ironwork. To him, his chosen trade taught self-reliance and self-respect. As Googerty himself explained, "If one is to be successful in designing and making ornamental ironwork, he must learn to use his head in conjunction with his hands; that is to say he must think out his own ideas and not be depending on someone else." In his teaching, Googerty not only provided a firm foundation in ironwork to his students, but encouraged them to create expressive as well as practical works. According to Googerty, "Art, in its best sense, may be expressed in iron as in the more noble and precious materials." He firmly believed that there was no reason why a blacksmith should not be termed an "artist" if he can produce splendid and beautiful work.)
This is an excrept from a site I read about Mr. Googerty from. Basically, me adding feet onto the the candle holder is something he'd be proud of, I think it all worked out great!
