She was a singer at a local night club. She was beautiful. Too stunning to work in such a seedy corner of town.
Long ago she had grown weary of the job. Night after night of bloody battles between drunkards, the constant hooting and cat calls, and the perverts who would try to paw at her. She had dreams of making it big, but those dreams were forever out of her reach. Her job was not glamerous or desirable, but it payed the bills. Times were tough in the city, and she needed her job to survive.
On her way back to her dressing room, she heard the shouts of drunken men in the back alley followed by the shattering of a beer bottle. Wondering what the commotion was, she cracked open the back door. As she did that, three dark figures darted into the shadows and dissapeared.
As their footsteps faded, she noticed him slouched up against the alley wall. He was broken and beaten. His clothes were shabby. He was a man who had hit rock bottom and had nothing left to lose.
Not caring about the rain or staining her beautiful silk dress with blood, she rushed to his side and lifted his head to peer into his eyes.
But he was slowly beginning to fade....

Commissioned work.
I pretty much had free reign with this one. I was given the general premise of the story and general ideas for the characters and pretty much told to "go nuts".
I wish I had more commissions like this because this was the most fun I've had working on a commission in a long time. Interactions between characters and complex cityscape backgrounds are among my weakest points as an artist, but I spent a lot of time with it and I think that it shows! I spent almost as much time on the background as I did with the characters for a change.
I didn't have any specific feline breed in mind when I designed the female... but looking at her now I think she does look a bit liger-ish.
I rather enjoy doing "darker" scenes like this. I should probably try some personal art like this.

* My husband (Azarus) came up with the slogan on the night club sign. (LOL)
* The name of the night club, "Flamingo" was based on the name of a very sleasy hotel back in my small hometown in Michigan.

Worth every penny! I am glad you enjoyed working on it! The story concept and characters are from a story I am working on. I just wish I had the talent to put the ideas, characters and emotions in my head to visual work on paper. Alas I am stuck to putting my ideas and emotions to words. However this piece has its own life and story.
