This is my first attempt at writing a proper piece of music, rather than just messing around on my guitar; I've written songs before, but not that I've done anything with. This is the first one that I've recorded and encoded up properly; it's kinda rough in places, but it's worked out okay. I had to reduce the Kbps to get it to fit in under FA's limit; hope that doesn't cause too many quality problems. It seems to have turned out somewhere between a dance track and 16-bit videogame background music, but it's nice, if slightly derivative, feel-good music.

Heh, you might be looking for a while; I've never recorded myself playing guitar. :P Plus, if I did record any of the songs I've written, you'd end up having to hear me sing, which might not be such a good thing. :P Still, if you're willing to put up with it, I'll have to look into how to record myself; I'm still very new at putting songs together, so I'm still learning how everything works!

This has a nice sound to it, it's soothing to have as background music after today :) If you're looking for suggestions, I would even remove the heartbeat-like bass drum or make it significantly quieter, because it seems to intrude on the quiet sections and I think the music has enough rhythm to stand without it.
The last minute with all the parts playing together is great, and I suddenly realized it reminded me of a Megadrive game at 6:05... it's probably Sonic 2, but I'm not sure!

On listening to it again, you're right; the drum sounds do intrude a lot more when listening to it here than when I was working on it on the other computer. Maybe normalising the track at the end of the process did it; it might've thought it was too quiet and boosted it to compensate. Either way, you're right, it could be better.
As for the similarity to a Sonic tune, I just knew that was gonna happen somewhere along the line! *facepalms* :P I guess I've spent so long around them, they've permeated my brain! I went back through the Megadrive tunes; the closest thing (to my mind, anyway) ended up being Sky Sanctuary Zone from Sonic and Knuckles, around 0:52 on the following link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNXBpzDp1K8 - it's (fortunately) not identical, but the lead harmony seems quite close. Maybe it was something to do with the subject matter I was thinking of when writing it? I was thinking about taking off on a plane to go on holiday, and that point where you break through the grey rainclouds over Birmingham Airport (or wherever) and realise the sun is, and always has been, shining all along beyond them. Maybe the 'high in the sky' plus 'triumphant' concepts together made me think of it?

You could be right - I don't think I ever played that one all the way through, but it's possible. Maybe it's just the mood of it that I got from the ending - it's certainly meant as a positive comment :)
I've seen that moment when you burst through the clouds above Britain as well, like in the Matrix - it was amazing.

This was mostly written in Cubase 4, then cleaned up using an audio editing program called Soundforge 9. By way of explanation, my mum has a lot of musical equipment and is looking to break into the music business; this was basically the result of me messing around on her equipment for a few days and seeing what I could come up with. :P

Thanks, bro. :) Hopefully I can come up with some other stuff as well; it'd be nice to think I might get enough for an album, but that might be digressing too far into "my band will make it big one day" idealism. :P Still, we'll see what comes of it. I'm really glad you like it, anyhow!
