If Dimitri is the same dimetrodon I suppose that experience perhaps inspired him not to let himself get caught off guard again and to become a badass, so he discovered that he had this ability and became an exohero. Though with dimetrodons having those little whiskers and Dimitri's expressive eyes he can't help being very cute as well.
