Macumba is a 4-y-o Asian leopard (possibly Amur, but I haven't spent the $ to DNA-type him yet).
Here he is, relaxing with me for a moment as we're out on a walk.
Leopards are somewhat weird big cats, as they're very one-person animals. They have their "Chosen One", and everyone else is either a play-thing or food, depending on the leopard's mood.
Leopard Trivia: Leopards are rather unique even among their own kind: cats. Leopards and Jaguars have about twice the reflex of other cats when they need it. To put things into relative terms, if Macumba's out for a walk, and it laying down facing away from me, he could leap up, spin around, leap, and be all over me like fur, and I'd still be reacting to him standing up. And yes: been there done that!
I am truly blessed to be able to work so closely with such an animal. Macumba is my younger "son" and is a very large part of my life. Oh, and yeah, the goofball in the pic is me.

*LOL*
Appears to be terrestrial enough there, but taking cougs for a walk vs. taking leps for a flight used to be a standard figure of speech of mine.
He's not as soft as he "appears". *g*
Where's the photo taken, if I may ask? Your org's website has at least one other pic in a similar "outdoor" area (onsite lake?), but the tiggy with the mountain backdrop intrigued me!
aside: summer pic?? Hmm... he doesn't seem to have that much of a fluffiness that many/most "pure-bred" Amurs retain even in low latitudes and the breeding programmme hasn't had that many "leakages" afaik... Mind you, you are in Baudy-land and they've had Amur, Chinese, etc... Intrigued. *g*
Doesn't make him any more or less the wonderful feline that he is, I'm sure. :)
Best wishes, once again, to y'both. :)

Most of my pix were taken at St Augustine Wild Reserve, in St Augustine FL, where I was the Head Curator not too long ago.
This pic was mid-summer, but I don't think Macumba's full-blood, as his father, Nemesis, never gets "fluffy" at all, even though his fur gets a bit more full in the winter.
Even is he's a total "mutt" I love him dealy; he's my buddy and I'm his "chosen one", so I have to count myself as the luckiest SOB on the planet! After all, if you make friends with a leopard, then you've really accomplished something!
Sincere Regards in your own endeavors!

In what little experience I have had, seems to me Amur leopards have a thicker coat, unlike say the African leopard. But then, I know very litle when it comes to species differentiators in leopards :). Anyway, he is spectacular! I STILL envy you for getting so close to these animals.
Amur Leopards have probably the finest coats of all the leopard (not that I'm basied or anything!). In the height of winter, it's thick and full, and the black fur is shorter than the yellow, wich makes them look two-layers. Also their tail get totally poofy from about amidships all the way to the end, which make them all the more unique.
Macumba's tail does the total puff thing in the winter, and his shoulders/whithers remain in the two-layer thing almost all year. His father, Nemesis, doesn't have nearly so pronounced fur-patterns, so I think Macumba gets it from his mum's side, but I've never met her, so I don't know for sure.
I'll try to get more pic up soon. I just have to choose them, which is hard, as I love them all so much!
